Dixon business owner looks to expand, reaches out to council for creative liquor license

DIXON – Lori Sheridan is looking at creative ways to expand her business and is asking the City Council for help.

Sheridan, owner of Nichols Greenhouses at 1228 W. Fourth St., wants to grow offerings beyond flowers, wreaths and the iconic petunia baskets that adorn the downtown every year.

She’s exploring different options such as Sunday brunches, weekly themed cocktail hour, art night and other special events.

The city allows for temporary liquor licenses for specific events, and Sheridan is asking the council to create a permanent license that would apply for such activities.

“These are unique times and, as a Dixon small business community owner, we must be able to react, transform and think differently about our business growth, and how to survive and outlast these trying times,” she said.

Sheridan also approached the council in September about the proposed new license, and Mayor Li Arellano Jr. said they are still looking into the possibility of a banquet-style license and how they would go about changing city code.
