UPDATE: 14-year-olds killed in crash were Reagan, Dixon High students

AMBOY – Two 14-year-olds, a boy and a girl, were killed in a one-vehicle crash around 4:14 p.m. Saturday on Robbins Road south of Amboy Road, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The driver, 19-year-old Draven Webb of Dixon, and a 14-year-old girl were injured and taken to KSB Hospital in Dixon, the release said.

Webb then was taken to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, where he was listed in fair condition tonight, a spokeswoman said.

The dead teens were Dixon Public Schools students.

Superintendent Margo Empen posted this on the district’s website this afternoon:

“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I share news of the death of an 8th grade student at Reagan Middle School and a freshman student at Dixon High School as a result of a car accident on Saturday.

“We are deeply saddened by this loss and extend our heartfelt condolences to their families. We know that a student’s passing is a difficult experience for family, friends, staff, and community.

“The District will have counselors on hand this week at all buildings to support DPS #170 students and staff. Please feel free to contact our school counselors if you need help.”

The news release described the crash as a collision, and said it is under investigation. No further details were released.

The release did not say if weather was a factor, but it was raining at the time, and had been raining most of the day, the National Weather Service said.
