This week

The First Fridays Open Mic will be Friday at Oregon VFW, 1310 W. Washington St., Oregon. Signup at 6 p.m., performances 7 to 11 p.m., $3 suggested donation.

ALS Fundraiser. Angela Meyer will perform 8 p.m. Friday during the Country for a Cause fundraiser for ALS that starts 5 p.m. Friday at Rusty Fox Alehouse and Wine Bar in Sterling. Proceeds will be donated to ALS Therapy Development Institute.

Celebration of Black culture. Achievements in history, science, art and sports will be showcased 11 a.m. Saturday at Discovery Center in Rockford. Admission $10.

Big prints. Wander at the Wetland, a full moon snowshoe hike will be 4:30 p.m. Monday at Nygren Wetland Preserve near Rockton. Snowshoe rental is $10.
