Oregon motorcyclist, 75, killed, wife critically injured in collision with van

The crash is under investigation

OREGON – An Oregon motorcyclist was killed and his passenger critically injured Thursday in a collision with a van at the intersection of East Washington Street and River Road.

Shamika Mathis, 27, of Delavan, Wisconsin, was on River road around 4 p.m. when she pulled into the path of the westbound three-wheeled motorcycle, driven by James Ross, 75, Oregon police said in a news release this morning.

Ross and his wife, Linda Ross, 73, were thrown from the bike; he died at the scene and she was taken to Mercy Health in Rockford, where she was listed in critical condition this morning, the release said.

Mathis and her passengers were evaluated and the scene and released.

The crash is under investigation, the release said.
