Girls basketball: Amboy star Mallory Powers commits to Illinois Wesleyan

Amboy standout Mallory Powers announced Saturday that she will be playing basketball at Illinois Wesleyan University next year.

The 5-foot-11 Powers, a two-time all-state selection, averaged 17.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 3.6 steals per game as she helped lead the Clippers to a 14-1 record in the COVID-shortened 2021 season. She and teammate Abi Payne were SVM Girls Basketball Co-Players of the Year this past season.

Illinois Wesleyan went 6-4 last season, including 4-3 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. The Titans were led by Kendall Sosa, who was named the NCAA Division III Player of Year by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and also earned the honor of CCIW’s Most Outstanding Player.
