LOCAL ROUNDUP: Fulton stays unbeaten, hands East Dubuque first loss

Dixon, Rock Falls boys fall in BNC road games; Dixon girls bowl past Sterling

In a battle of unbeatens, and future conference rivals, Fulton beat East Dubuque 50-42 on Monday.

Fulton (9-0) got 22 points from Connor Barnett, including nine in the first quarter as the Steamers jumped out to an 18-11 lead.

Kyler Pessman added 10 points and Ian Wiebenga scored eight.

East Dubuque (11-1) got 14 points from Declan Schemmel.

Genoa-Kingston 65, Dixon 57: The Dukes could not get past the Cogs on the road in a Big Northern Conference matchup.

Jake Gaither’s 24 points led Dixon, which trailed 16-15 after one quarter, 34-29 at halftime, and 45-38 after three periods. Ryan Pitzer scored 12 for the Dukes, and Riley Abell added seven.

Alec Golembiewski poured in 31 points for the Cogs.

Byron 62, Rock Falls 26: The Rockets dropped a Big Northern game on the road.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Rockford Christian 70, Oregon 67, OT: The Hawks forced an extra period, but fell to the Lions at the Blackhawk Center.

Oregon led 12-5 after one quarter, 28-21 at halftime and 41-38 after three, but a 20-point fourth quarter from Rockford Christian sent the game to overtime tied 58-58. Courtney Park had six points in the overtime period for Rockford Christian, and 22 in the game.

Hadley Lutz led Oregon with 18 points. Elizabeth Mois scored 14, Ella Martin and Ashlyn Kitzmiller each scored 12, and Mariah Drake scored nine.

Sherrard 45, Morrison 26: The Fillies dropped a Three Rivers home game.

Sherrard jumped out to an 11-6 lead after one and a 22-12 lead by halftime.

Shelby Veltrop scored 18 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, to go with five blocks, three steals and three assists.

Kewanee 26, Bureau Valley 24: The Boilermakers topped the Storm in a defensive Three Rivers battle in Kewanee.

Orangeville 42, Milledgeville 11: The Missiles fell on the road in an NUIC matchup.

Hinkley-Big Rock 42, AFC 24: The Raiders dropped a nonconference game in Ashton.

Lakkiah McClain led the Raiders with six points.

Eastland 48, River Ridge-Scales Mound 27: An 18-point fourth quarter helped the Cougars pull away for a win in Lanark.

Eastland led 8-6 after one quarter, 18-14 at halftime and 30-24 after three quarters before holding River Ridge to three points in the final eight minutes.

Karlie Krogman scored 17 points to lead Eastland, and Talena Rogers added six. Natalie Hughes dished out five assists. Alyssa Miller had four rebounds and three steals. Addison Burkholder grabbed four rebounds and dished out four assists.

BOYS BOWLING

La Salle-Peru 3,430, Sterling 2,992: The Golden Warriors lost all three games in a dual loss in Peru.

Carter Schlegel rolled a 569 series to lead Sterling, with Ethan Melcher adding a 502.

GIRLS BOWLING

Dixon 2,927, Sterling 2,862: The Duchesses beat the Golden Warriors by 65 pins at Plum Hollow.

Tianna Bryson led Dixon with a 595 series, which included a 215 game. Grace DeBord added a 522, with a high game of 202, and Kaylie Yocum rolled a 504.

Olivia Zinanni rolled a 643 to lead Sterling, putting up games of 257 and 221. Grace Schultz rolled a 498.
