Area roundup: Dixon girls bowl past Sterling at Plum Hollow

The Dixon girls bowling team hosted rival Sterling on Monday at Plum Hollow Lanes, and the Duchesses defeated the Golden Warriors 2,908-2,497.

Tianna Bryson opened her dual-high 567 series with a 203 game, and Grace DeBord added a 532 series for Dixon. Autumn Swift rolled a 482, Leslie Pettorini had a 471, and Olivia Gingras added a 461. Abby Tate (395) rounded out the Duchesses’ lineup.

Hannah Conderman led Sterling with a 509 series, while Brendy Gatica added a 488 series and a 191 high game. Emily Doss rolled a 412, and Katelynn Garcia (393), Madison Schmitt (387) and Loralei Michels (308) also bowled for the Warriors.

Oregon 2,588, Hall 1,370: Ava Wight’s 626 series led the Hawks past the Red Devils at Ladd Lanes.

Wight rolled games of 179, 221 and 226 in her match-high series for Oregon (7-4). Mackenzie Alford finished off her 473 series with a 198 game, Kendra Ehrler added a 412 series, and Trinity Hultquist had a 406. Paige Beauchem (351) and Kylie Krug (320) rounded out the Hawks’ lineup.

Sarah Beier had a 575 series and 221 high game for Hall, which had only three bowlers. Emma Nicoli added a 523 series and 209 high game.

Boys bowling

Sterling 3,152, Erie-Prophetstown 2,181: The Golden Warriors traveled to Fulton and won all three games against the Panthers, who only had five bowlers.

Tristan Oelrichs rolled a 642 series to lead Sterling, with games of 192, 248 and 202. Ethan Melcher opened his 588 series with a 214 game, and Mikah Hernandez bowled a 504 series. Brenden Stanley had a 496, Andrew Doughty added a 471, and Dylan Doss rolled a 451 for the Warriors.

Michael Miner closed his 567 series with a 246 game for E-P, while Shawn Chandler had a 517 series, and Bryce VanDeWostine added a 508. Keith Goodson (300) and Dom Bray (289) also bowled for the Panthers.

Oregon 2,975, Hall 1,770: The Hawks got strong performances throughout the lineup in a win at Ladd Lanes over the Red Devils, who only had five bowlers.

Isaac Kaltenbrun had a 562 series with a 204 second game, and Roberto Hernandez closed his 556 series with a 214 game for Oregon (14-3). Brandon Rowe rolled a 519 series, Brady Davis added a 468, and Gavvin Surmo had a 414. Brian Immel (322 in 2 games) and Stylar Klapp (134 game) split the other series.

Moses Levine’s 464 series led Hall.

Girls basketball

Kewanee 63, Newman 28: The shorthanded Comets fell behind 23-9 by the end of the first quarter and 41-17 by halftime in a Three Rivers East road loss.

Madison Duhon and Ady Waldschmidt had eight points each, and Waldschmidt added eight rebounds for Newman (1-14, 0-4 TRAC East). Shannon Kelly chipped in six points and seven rebounds.

Marissa Stevens, Emma Crofton and Mya Dearing scored 15 points apiece for Kewanee.

Sherrard 44, Morrison 38: The Fillies fell behind 17-10 in the first quarter, but rallied to tie the game 30-30 heading into the fourth quarter before dropping a Three Rivers West road game.

Shelby Veltrop had 12 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals for Morrison, and Camryn Veltrop and Kendra Fisher scored eight points each; Camryn Veltrop blocked nine shots, and Fisher finished with four rebounds. Jordan Eads had six points and two steals, and Diana Robbins chipped in four points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists for the Fillies.

Olivia Meskan finished with 15 points, and Sydney Adamson added 12 for Sherrard.

Amboy 40, Forreston 29: The Clippers jumped out to a 16-8 lead in the first quarter and held on from there for an NUIC South victory in a makeup game from Dec. 7.

Olivia Dinges had a double-double with 23 points – including 3-for-3 from 3-point range – and 12 rebounds to lead Amboy, and Elly Jones added seven points and seven steals. Courtney Ortgiesen chipped in five points and four assists.

Hailey Greenfield and Jenna Greenfield both finished with seven points, four rebounds and a steal for Forreston, and Letrese Buisker added six points, seven rebounds and three blocks. Alaina Miller chipped in four points, two assists and a steal.

Prince of Peace 68, Fulton 55: The Steamers lost in Clinton, Iowa, despite a 23-point performance from Lara Bielema.

Reese Dykstra added a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Miraya Pessman added nine points and four steals, and Reese Germann scored eight.

Boys basketball

Lena-Winslow 68, Forreston 31: The Cardinals trailed 20-8 after one quarter and 40-13 by halftime in an NUIC crossover loss on the road.

Brock Smith had eight points, and Payton Encheff scored seven for Forreston.

Brody Mahon scored 24 points, and Luke Benson had 21 for Le-Win.

Boys swimming

Sterling 136, Clinton (Iowa) 35: The Water Warriors cruised past the River Kings in a dual at the Duis Center, winning all 12 varsity events.

Mason Adams led a quartet of four-event winners, taking the 200 IM (2:12.55) and 100 backstroke (1:04.24), and also joining Michael Garland, Reiley Austin and Skylar Drolema to win the 200 freestyle relay (1:33.70) and the 400 free relay (3:29.55). Garland, Austin and Drolema teamed up with Braeden Ruiz to win the 200 medley relay (1:45.88).

Garland won the 50 freestyle (23.78 seconds), Drolema won the 100 butterfly (57.83), Austin won the 100 freestyle (50.51), and Ruiz won the 100 breaststroke (1:05.37) for the Warriors. Peter Garland took the 200 free (1:59.47), Conner Porter won the 500 free (5:34.78), and Braiden Herrera won the 1-meter diving competition (171.85 points).
