The Sauk Valley Skyhawks volleyball team picked up yet another win on the road, defeating Spoon River 25-20, 25-12, 22-=25, 25-14 on Wednesday night in Canton.
Michal Willman had 19 kills and five stuff blocks, and Kiley Sanders added nine kills and 18 digs for Sauk (15-1). Tiana Tichler spiked eight kills, Juliana Rotella added seven kills, and Maddie Sands led the way with 19 digs. Gabby Jones dished 26 assists, and Audra Goff chipped in 19 assists and 10 digs.
Pearl City def. Amboy 25-3, 25-6: The Wolves cruised past the Clippers in an NUIC match.
Amboy got three assists from Elly Jones, two digs apiece from Jones and Lexi Ketchum, kills from Jones, Ketchum and Madison O’Malley, a block from Jones, and an ace from Chloe Heath.
Newman 164, Kewanee 179, Morrison 185: Just a day after knocking off Rockridge and Riverdale in a close triangular at Emerald Hill, Newman did the same in a tightly-contested triangular at Kewanee.
Kyle Wolfe shot a 40 to lead the way, with Jacob David and Logan Palmer each carding a 41 and Carson Palmer scoring a 42. The Comets went so low that Ty Brockman’s 43 wasn’t a counting score. Grant Koerner fired a 54.
Morrison had all six golfers in the 40s, with Isaac Melton shooting a 45, Mason Dykstra and Chase Decker firing 46s, Adam Tichler and David Stralow adding 48s, and Dayton Young shooting a 49.
Sterling 194, Rock Falls 217: The Golden Warriors beat the Rockets at Emerald Hill.
Sterling got a 45 from Dale Guerrieri and a 47 from Cam O’Brien. Troy Lawrence (50) and Braden Hartman (52) rounded out the team score, and Carter Morris and Trevor Dir shot matching 53s.
Rock Falls got a 47 from Nick Vickers. Conner Porter (55), Ben Folgers (56) and Riley Anderson (59) also contributed to the team, score, and Zcolby Ward (65) and Brody VanWeelden (68) also played.
Rockridge 172, Princeton 180, Erie-Prophetstown 196: The Panthers got a 43 from Ethan Palmer, but lost to the Tigers and Rockets.
Fulton 172, Mercer County 176: The Steamers eked out a nonconference win at Oak View Country Club, with Ian Wiebenga finishing in a three-way tie for medalist with a 42.
Landon Meyers and Aiden Daley both fired 43s, and Reed Owen added a 44 for Fulton. Mercer County’s Carson Boelens and Hunter Weeks also shot 42s.
East Dubuque 186, Polo 260: The Marcos were unable to get by the Warriors at Silver Ridge.
Clay Davis led Polo with a 50. East Dubuque’s Jacob Lange was the medalist with a 40.
Lena-Winslow/Pearl City 194, West Carroll 307: The Thunder lost an NUIC dual at Wolf Hollow, as LW/PC’s Mikhail Hussain was medalist with a 43.
Erik Kice led West Carroll with a 68, and Cooper Smith shot a 69.
Newman places two in top 10 at TRAC meet: In the Three Rivers Conference meet, Newman’s Ashley Wierman shot a 95 to place fifth and Ellie Rude took ninth with a 99.
Five schools fielded full teams, with Rockridge claiming the conference championship with a 392. Kewanee’s Mya Mirocha was the medalist with an 83.
Bureau Valley fielded three golfers, with Callie Schoff’s 116 leading the way. Erie-Prophetstown had three golfers, getting a 108 from Malory Eggers.
Lena-Winslow/Pearl City 192, West Carroll 220: The Thunder dropped a dual meet at Wolf Hollow.
Victoria Reiland shot a 49 to lead West Carroll. LW/PC’s Sarah Edler was the medalist with a 40.
Sterling 4, Rochelle 1: The Golden Warriors picked up a nonconference win at home.
Ellie Aitken picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles, with Jenica Francis winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
In doubles play, Sam Feather and Madison Hubbs won 7-5, 6-2, and Ireen Hilty and Tori Arduini won 6-2, 6-2.
