The Sterling volleyball team swept a Western Big 6 triangular on Saturday at United Township, beating the Panthers 25-18, 25-7 and Galesburg 25-7, 25-13.
In the win over UT, Grace Egan had 17 kills and nine digs, Katie Dittmar had four kills and two blocks, Kathryn Rowzee had three aces and two blocks, Karmen Weinrich had eight digs, and Delali Amankwa had 21 assists.
In the win over the Silver Streaks, Egan had 16 kills and six digs, Weinrich had 10 digs, Amankwa had 19 assists, and Dittmar had four blocks and four aces.
Milledgeville 2-3, Fulton 1-4 at Byron: The Fulton Steamers went 1-4 at the Byron tournament, picking up a 26-24, 25-12 win over Pecatonica while falling to Stillman Valley, Winnebago, Guilford and Aquin.
For the tournament, Brooklyn Brennan had 22 kills, 37 assists, 37 digs and eight aces. Kara Stoecker had 19 kills and seven digs. Reese Dykstra had 12 kills, 37 assists and 15 digs. Annaka Hackett had 14 kills. Ava Bowen had 12 kills. Mikayla Gazo had 17 digs.
Milledgeville was 2-3, getting a 25-9, 25-12 win over North Boone and a 24-26, 26-24, 15-11 win over Winnebago, but falling to Forreston, Aquin and Dakota.
Sycamore 5, Dixon 0: The Duchesses dropped a nonconference dual to the Spartans.
Sycamore won four of the matches in straight sets, being pushed to a third set only at No. 1 doubles where Abby Golembiewski and Abby Bourdage beat Leah Kuehl and Grace Ferguson 6-3, 5-7, 10-3.
Girls cross country
Dannhorn, Ford shine at Peoria: Oregon’s Ella Dannhorn and Rock Falls’ Hana Ford were 34th and 35th respectively at the First to the Finish Invitational at Peoria’s Detweiller Park. Dannhorn had a time of 19:56.4, Ford a time of 19:59.0.
The Rockets also got a 41st-place run from Tayli Hultin in 20:03.7. Grace Rippy finished 92nd with a 21:20.5.
Erie-Prophetstown’s Dylan Chandler was 74th in 21:02.6.
Rock Falls was 12th as a team with 444 points. Erie-Prophetstown took 26th with 710 points. Oregon was 36th with 953.
Winnebago was the top team with 64 points, beating out Tolono Unity who scored 89. Winnebago had the individual winner: Grace Erb who had a time of 17:48.4.
Boys cross country
EP freshman 21st at Peoria: Erie-Prophetstown freshman Ethan Daubman finished 21st out of 571 runners with a time of 16:26.8 at the 48-team First to the Finish Invitational at Peoria’s Detweiller Park.
Jose Gomez was the top Rock Falls runner with a time of 17:31.5 to take 64th. Teammate Matthew Marcum was 76th with a time of 17:43.0.
Oregon’s top runner was Aidan Guida who finished 291st in 20:08.6.
Rock Falls took 17th as a team with 494 points, beating out Erie-Prophetstown, who had 541 to place 18th. Oregon was 47th with 1,463.
Chicago Latin won the team title with 99 points. West Hancock’s Miles Sheppard was the top individual in 14:59.1.
Dixon 2, Alleman 0: The Dukes scored late to secure a nonconference win over the Pioneers at SVCC.
Luis Xique scored on a corner kick with 10 minutes left, and Bradyn Langloss added goal to seal it a few minutes later.
Clippers second at Kewanee: Wes Wilson’s 80, good for fourth place, paced the Amboy golfers to a second-place finish at the 18-team Kewanee Invitational, eight strokes behind Rockridge with a 349.
Hayden Wittenauer added an 83, and Jackson Rogers shot an 85.
Morrison was seventh, shooting a 374 behind Mason Dykstra’s 85 and Isaac Melton’s 87.
Bureau Valley shot a 378 to place ninth. Bryson Smith’s 86 led the Storm, with Seth Spratt adding a 96, and Cooper Balensiefen and Landon Birdsley shooting 98.
Erie-Prophetstown shot a 406 to claim 15th. Ethan Palmer led the Panthers with a 97.
Sauk Valley 8, McHenry 1: The Skyhawks beat two-time reigning regional champion McHenry.
The Skyhawks swept doubles play, winning each in straight sets. Saryn Seeley and Lexi Sneek won 6-3, 6-4, Sydney Schott and Meghan VanBuren won 6-1, 6-0, and Olivia Pitkin and Kenzie Hubbard won 6-4, 6-3.
In singles play, Schott won 7-6 (7-1), 6-3. Seeley won 6-4, 3-6, 10-4. Hubbard won 6-0, 6-4. Van Burean won 6-3, 6-3. Sneek won 7-5, 6-0.
