Arrea roundup: Sterling, Rock Falls, Dixon and Newman volleyball teams all notch victories

The Sterling volleyball team picked up a win on the road Thursday night, defeating Stillman Valley 25-23, 25-23.

Grace Egan had 18 kills, 15 digs and a block for the Golden Warriors (3-9), while Kathryn Rowzee added eight kills, three aces and a block. Delali Amankwa had 26 assists and an ace, and Carmen Weinrich led the way with 16 digs.

Rock Falls def. Moline 25-22, 27-25: The Rockets remained undefeated with a nonconference win at Tabor Gym.

Mallory Pinske had nine kills and six blocks for Rock Falls (10-0), and Maya Sands added five kills and 12 digs. Claire Bickett had four kills and seven digs, Cara Goff added 10 digs, Cadence Stonitsch chipped in eight digs and 10 assists, and Denali Stonitsch dished eight assists.

Dixon def. Alleman 25-12, 25-17: The Duchesses traveled to Rock Island and returned home with a nonconference win.

Mallory Coley had four kills, two blocks, six digs and an ace, and Ainsley Govig and Sam Tourtillott each slammed four kills for Dixon. Hanna Lengquist dished nine assists, and Elena Castillo-Wetzell finished with nine digs and two aces.

Newman def. Hall 25-16, 25-9: The Comets cruised to a Three Rivers win in Spring Valley, while playing without seniors Ally Clevenger and Paige Grennan.

Jessalin Johns had 10 kills, six digs and two aces, and Kennedy Rowzee added seven kills, three blocks and an ace for Newman (11-2, 4-0). Shae McNeill dished 11 assists and served five aces, and Katie Grennan hd eight assists, four digs and two aces.

Oregon def. Harvard 25-9, 25-10: The Hawks rolled past the Hornets in a nonconference match at the Blackhawk Center.

Jenae Bothe had seven kills and two blocks, Ava Wight added seven digs, five kills and an ace, and Aubrey Point finished with nine assists, six digs and three aces for Oregon (3-6).

Eastland def. AFC 25-8, 25-7: The Cougars downed the Raiders in an NUIC match in Lanark, led by Addison Burkholder’s eight kills, seven digs and three aces.

Jenica Stoner dished 19 assists, Chloe Sweitzer led the way with nine digs, and Quinc Haverland added two blocks and an ace for Eastland (7-2, 2-0).

Polo def Amboy 25-10, 20-25, 25-14: The Marcos topped the Clippers in a three-set NUIC match.

Nicole Boelens led Polo with 12 kills, 12 digs and five aces, while Bekah Zeigler and Kadence Sheaffer each had six kills; Zeigler also had 10 digs, and Sheaffer added nine assists and nine digs. Natalie Nelson added five kills, 13 assists and nine digs, Lindee Poper also finished with five kills, Teah Almasy dished six assists, and Courtney Bushman added 11 digs.

Elly Jones had 13 assists and three aces for Amboy, while Lexi Ketchum and Chloe Heath each had four kills.

Forreston def. Fulton 25-15, 25-22: The Cardinals picked up a conference win over the Steamers.

Kara Stoecker had four kills for Fulton. Jersey Boyson had 11 assists, and Teegan Germann had 16 digs.

Sherrard def. Erie-Prophetstown 25-27, 25-17, 25-23: The Panthers came up short in a hard-fought Three Rivers West battle on the road.

Kennedy Buck had 11 kills, eight assists and five digs for E-P, while Madyson Bushaw spiked eight kills. Jaiden Oleson finished with 18 assists, two blocks and two aces, and Emma Davis led the way with 15 digs.

Girls golf

Rock Falls 163, Byron 191: The Rockets rolled to a Big Northern win at Rock River Golf and Pool, led by medalist Megan Fiorini and runner-up Ellie Wasson.

Fiorini fired a 3-under-par 34, and Wasson shot even-par 37 for Rock Falls. Peyton Burns fired a 44, Lauren Tupper added a 48, Brooke Danreiter shot a 50, and Taylor Brown had a 53.

Polo 216, West Carroll 249: The Marcos picked up a win at Silver Ridge behind a 44 from Kamryn Stockton. Braelyn Velez added a 55.

The Thunder got a 51 from Victoria Reiland.

Boys golf

Newman 162, Erie-Prophetstown 208: The Comets picked up a win on their home course over the Panthers.

Jacob Donald’s 38 led the way for Newman, beating teammate Kyle Wolfe by a stroke. Logan Palmer (42) and Ty Brockman (43) rounded out the team score, with Carson Palmer adding a 44 and Grant Koerner shooting a 61.

Ethan Palmer led the Panthers with a 47, Parker Rangel had a 52, Bryce VanDeWostine added a 54, and Blake Geuns fired a 55.

Byron 168, Rock Falls 190: The Rockets lost a Big Northern dual at PrairieView, as Ben Folgers led the way for the Rockets with a 44.

Mendota 176, Amboy 180, Rochelle 206: The Clippers split a nonconference dual in Rochelle, as Wes Wilson was runner-up with a 43.

Hayden Wittenauer fired a 44, Jackson Rogers had a 45, and Jordan Harris added a 48 for Amboy, which also got a 51 from Griffin Bushman and a 53 from Ethan Pratt.

Mendota’s Ethan Hanaman was medalist with a 42.

Durand-Pecatonica 211, Polo 261: The Rivermen got past the Marcos at Silver Ridge.

Cody Buskohl led Polo with a 48, and Clay Davis shot a 55.

West Carroll, with did not field a full team, got a 75 from Erik Kice.

River Ridge 180, Aquin 216, Forreston 235: The Cardinals lost an NUIC triangular at Eagle Ridge, as River Ridge’s Thomas Hereau and Aquin’s Lane Pierson tied for medalist honors with 39s.

Heath Schubert (56), Kaden Ganz (57) and Colton McGlynn (58) led Forreston.

Boys soccer

Oregon 3, Stillman Valley 1: The Hawks got two goals and an assist from Joey Gelander in a Big Northern win at Oregon Park West.

Liam Dickson-Harriett scored the other goal and dished an assist, and Isaac Nelson also had an assist for Oregon (4-7, 1-3), which got eight saves in goal from Miley Smith.

Girls tennis

Geneseo 6, Sterling 3: The Golden Warriors dropped a Western Big 6 home dual to the rival Leafs.

Anna Meltzer picked up a No. 2 singles win 6-3, 6-3. At No. 6 singles, Sam Feather won 6-1, 5-7, 10-6.

Jenica Francis and Madison Hubbs won 2-6, 6-4,10-2 at No. 3 doubles.
