Whiteside tallies 48 new cases Saturday and Sunday

Coronavirus cases in the Sauk Valley

Whiteside County reported 48 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend: 10 cases in people younger than 20, nine people in their 20s, nine in their 30s, seven in their 40s, nine in their 50s, and four in their 60s.

Lee, Ogle and Carroll counties don’t report over the weekend.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 2,942 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 16 deaths statewide Sunday.

As of Sunday, the IDPH also reported a total of 9,001,105 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been distributed statewide, with 7,178,611 vaccines administered.

As of the time this story was published, 2,853,730 of people statewide are fully vaccinated, or 22.4%.

The Sauk Valley is not far behind: As of Sunday, 21.23% of Whiteside County’s population is fully vaccinated, 20.44% of Lee County’s, 20.12 of Carroll County’s and 20.01% of Ogle County’s.

The North region (Boone, Carroll, DeKalb, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside and Winnebago counties) has maintained a positivity rate below 8% for 86 days. The region’s positivity rate increased to 6.2%.

Lee County’s positivity rate increased to 1.9%, and Whiteside County’s increased to 9%, Carroll County is at 3.1% and Ogle’s is at 5.3%.

The seven-day rolling average of Illinois’ positivity rate remained the same at 4.2%.

Hospitalizations have increased nine out of the past 10 days in this region.

Currently, 19% of ICU beds are available.
