SPRINGFIELD – Highway work zones will open lanes, where possible, for the Thanksgiving holiday to minimize travel disruption.
The designated lanes were opened at 3 p.m. Wednesday and will stay open until midnight on Sunday.
Motorists should still expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through these areas. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
Affected construction zones in the area are:
Westbound Lincoln Highway (Illinois 2) between Fourth and Second avenues in Sterling and Interstate 180 over the Illinois River.
