End Polio Now Walk will be Saturday in Rock Falls

Walkers who donate $20 to the End Polio Now Walk at Centennial Park in Rock Falls will get a T-shirt, while supplies last.

ROCK FALLS — The sixth annual End Polio Now Walk will be 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2 at Centennial Park’s Larson Shelter. The event is a joint effort by the Rotary Clubs of Sterling, Rock Falls, Dixon and Walnut.

Registration with no fee is required for insurance reasons, so participants should plan to arrive at 8:15 a.m. A short update on the status of polio eradication will be presented. There will also be a group photo.

The approximately three-mile walk follows the Hennepin Canal or the East Second Street sidewalk to downtown Rock Falls and returns via East 11th Street to the shelter.

Masks and social distancing are recommended for participants.

Donations are accepted. Donors of more than $20 will receive a shirt as long as the supply lasts.

The 2020 walk generated $4,975.56 in donations. The contribution was enhanced by a donation by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, putting it at $14,926.68.
