Serenity Hospice offers free grief course

Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon.

OREGON – Serenity Hospice and Home will start an eight-week class on understanding grief that runs each Wednesday from Sept. 22 to Nov. 10, bereavement coordinator Cathy Warren said.

The group will meet at the hospice at 1648 S. Illinois Route 2. The meeting time will be determined by the class members at the first meeting. To register, call 815-732-2499.

“I am very excited to offer a class like this one,” Warren said. “Our grief groups are usually open-ended and people come and go as they travel through their own journey of grief. This is a more structured approach and the participant will know exactly when it will end.”

The structure of the group will follow a book by Dr. Alan D. Wolfelt that covers 10 touchstones in the areas of physical, emotional, cognitive, social and spiritual growth to help a person through the grief process.
