Newman Central Catholic High School Student of the Month: Kathyrn Noble

Kathryn “Katie” Noble, 18, of Amboy is the Newman Central Catholic High School March Student of the Month. Her parents are Doug Noble and Molly Noble, and her brother is Ryan Noble.

Favorite class: My teacher’s aide period. Since I want to be a teacher, this is really fun for me, and after I help my teacher out, I have time to work on homework. I like having the extra time in the morning to ensure I have all my homework completed and to work ahead on some assignments.

Least-favorite class: Pre-calculus. I definitely struggle with that class and it’s very hard to miss a class. It’s always something new every class and we always have homework. Although I dislike the class, the teacher, Missy Rhodes, is one of the nicest and most helpful teachers at Newman.

Favorite teacher: Chris Somers. He has been since freshman year. I am his teacher’s aide this semester. He is so nice and very easy to talk to. He also has the best room in the school.

School activities in which you participate: Student Ambassadors, Key Club, National Honor Society, cheerleading, and Kairos leader, a religious retreat that juniors at Newman go on and about 12 seniors and a few adults are in charge of putting it on.

Civic, church, or other volunteer activities in which you participate: On some Saturdays, I join my fellow club members and volunteer at Sauk Valley Food Bank. I also have volunteered at the Christmas walk and Rock Falls Summer Splash.

What will you do after high school? I plan to attend University of Wisconsin-Platteville to major in elementary education.

What is something you learned in high school that you think you’ll never use? What I hope to never see or use in the real world is viewing and trying to treat an injury. We watched videos in athletic training, and I hope to never see some of those injuries again. I will leave that to the professionals.

If you could change one thing about your school, what would it be? It would be the fact that we can’t have Newman sport sweatshirts. These include the sweatshirts that have “Newman” on them, it just doesn’t make sense why we can’t wear them.

If you could create any new class at your school, what would it be? Foods or home economics. I think these classes would be so beneficial to high school students at Newman because many kids don’t know basic life skills. I just think it would be really fun.

What does it take to be a successful high school student? Be super-organized and make time for your studies. If you procrastinate, the workload tends to double and it makes students get stressed out. Being organized helped me stay responsible and get my work done well and in a timely manner.

Do you have a job? I work at the Warehouse Boutique in Amboy. I really like the people I work for, they are all super nice and always know how to make each other laugh. I enjoy working where I do because I don’t dread going into work.

How would you describe your group of friends? My friends are really outgoing people who are involved in school activities and care about their schoolwork. I have learned to surround myself with people that make me a better person and always build me up. My friends always know how to make me laugh, and we always have a good time when we are together.

Who is your best friend? I have a group of friends that I hang out with, but I wouldn’t say I have one person that I am always with. I try to be friends with everyone because there is no reason to be mean or to leave people out. If I had to pick one, I would say my boyfriend, Jake, is the person that I am closest with.

What do you do in your free time? In my free time I like to hang out with my friends, listen to music, drive around, hang out with my boyfriend, and cheer. I also like to spend time with my immediate and extended family.

What kind of music are you listening to? I love country music. It always makes me happy, especially when I am going for a ride with my friends during the summer, it’s so relaxing.

If you could go anywhere in the world for free, where would it be? Either Hawaii or a tropical island. I love the thought of traveling someday. I also love the beach and warm weather, so traveling to these places would be a dream come true.

What is your favorite childhood memory? Going to Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, with my family and my aunt’s family.

What is the best way to cheer you up? Getting me food. I am a big foodie, but – ironically – I am very picky.

What is your life’s philosophy? Kill people with kindness. This is something my mom taught me that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Do you have any pets? I have an English cream golden retriever, Tebow. He is my best friend.

What would you do if you received $1 billion? Put money away for college and travel when I could. I am very interested in saving my money so I have the feeling of stability as I get older.
