Whiteside County Soil and Water holding elections, selling trees, pond stock

MORRISON – The Whiteside County Soil And Water Conservation District election of directors will be held Feb. 3.

Votes can be cast from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the USDA Building, 400 Wilkens Drive. Two directors will be elected. Voting is open people or businesses that hold legal title or are in legal possession of any land lying within the boundaries of the district, whether a lessee, renter, tenant or otherwise.

Also, the annual trees sales drive is open through March 5. Trees will be available for pick up the third week in April. A variety of trees, which are to be used for conservation purposes only, will be available from $15 to $20.

The district also is selling fish for farm pond stocking, as well as pond products through March 19. A variety of species are available. Some fish cannot be bagged, and buyers will need to bring containers of water to transport fish.

The deadline to order grass carp is March 19. All other fish orders are due by March 26. Prices vary from $1 each, $10 a pound, $20 a quart, to $80 per bag.
