Winter weather leaves blanket of snow on Sauk Valley

A wintery storm rolled through the Sauk Valley Monday night and into the early morning hours Tuesday, blanketing the area in a fresh coat of snow.

According to the National Weather Service, Sterling saw 5.7 inches of snow. Milledgeville also saw 5.7 inches of snow, while Morrison got 4.5 inches and Ashton got 4.9 inches. Mt. Carroll had 4.0 inches.

Heavier snowfalls were found just to the east and further to the west and north of the area with this storm. Rochelle saw 6.5 inches of snow. Rickardsville, Iowa, just west of Dubuque, saw 10 inches. The heaviest totals the NWS Quad Cities office saw with this system came in Elkhart, Iowa, near Des Moines, with 14 inches.
