Oregon Elementary School raises $700 for tornado survivors

OREGON – Oregon Elementary School students raised $700 within two days to help American Red Cross tornado relief efforts in southern Illinois and Kentucky.

To raise the funds, an OES staff member and several students hosted a coin drive wherein student leaders collected money before school started, as kids arrived for classes.

“The $700 exceeded our expectations as we only anticipated $100-200,” said OES Assistant Principal Ryan Huels.

The $700 was a part of a total $40,000 nationwide raised for the tornado victims.

Huels said school officials were “delighted to see young ones partake in such a worthwhile project.
