What Are the Differences Between CBD Oil and Hemp Oil?

The healthcare product landscape is shifting considerably with the inclusion and application of CBD products in the market.

As the research for CBD products continue – along with its rise in popularity – similar products are becoming prominent as well. Outside of CBD, some of the most common products are made from hemp. While they are similar in some ways, CBD oil and hemp oil are not the same.

So, what are the differences and similarities between the two?

What is CBD oil?

CBD, which is scientifically known as cannabidiol, is one of over a hundred chemical compounds that is found in cannabis plants. This compound contains Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main element in the cannabis plant itself. CBD oil is extracted from the whole plant, and then it is usually combined with other oils and herbs to make the popular CBD oils that are in the various health care products which are sold to the public.

What is hemp oil?

Hemp oil similar to CBD but it is only extracted from certain parts of the hemp plant, such as the seeds, leaves and petals. Hemp plants also contain THC, but they have lower levels than CBD oil. When hemp oil is extracted and processed, there is often virtually no THC remaining in the finished product.

What are some other differences between the two?

While cannabis and hemp come from the same plant species, the main difference between CBD and hemp oil is in the amount of THC present. Any cannabis plant containing more than 0.3% of THC is considered marijuana. If it contains less than 0.3%, it is considered hemp.

Neither CBD or hemp will cause you to feel “high,” and they have distinctive benefits for treating a variety of ailments such as pain, stress, anxiety, and to help you sleep.
