Letter: Save the McHenry Township Road District and vote no

McHenry Township Trustee Bob Anderson wants to consolidate the township with the Township Road District. It sounds good on paper, but let’s ask some important questions. The trustees already cut the budget for the road district to the minimum, now they want the township trustees to run it. Who on the board will be qualified to do that? They will still have to hire someone with experience in this kind of work. The salary for this road engineer will have to come out of the already diminished road funds. Next year when the snow falls you will be able to thank Bob Anderson for your poorly plowed roads and in the summer for the lack of grass cutting along our highways and the potholes that don’t get fixed, the trees that hang dangerously over the roads and any help with drainage and flooded roadways because the road district will lose almost one-third of its budget next year. Anderson’s goal is to diminish the services we get from the township to the point that they are unable to perform the work they do now. He brings up the elimination of road districts in three other townships, but he fails to tell you that the combined miles served is less that 100 miles. He has told you only half the truth to serve his agenda.

He says it’s to get rid of the taxes we pay, they when he took office he said: “One thing people should know is that townships aren’t really about the money. They’re not a large part of your property tax bill.” But he wants to destroy the government closest to the people. He tells you only part of the story. If you really want to see what Mr. Anderson and his two-man band are really like, go to a township meeting just once. It will be an eyeopener.

Save our road district and vote no on April 6.
