Letter: Fixing the division in Washington

To the Editor:

There are several possible solutions to the serious division that exists in Washington today.

Term limits or donors giving money directly to the candidate, thus curbing the individual political party’s power. Campaigns would be paid for by the candidate and any donors.

Neither of these solutions is very likely, unfortunately. The power of the purse should not be underrated. We could start by making our own contributions directly to the candidate. While it may seem like more trouble and effort, wouldn’t a fully functional Congress be worth it?
