Part of Algonquin’s Main Street to be closed starting Monday

Local access will be maintained on Main Street from Route 62 to south of Edward Street, according to village

Starting Monday, Algonquin’s Main Street from south of Edward Street to Arrowhead Drive will be closed for reconstruction, the village said in a news release.

Next week’s Main Street closure also will include a section of Riverview Drive from Sunny Drive to Park Street.

During this time, local access only will be maintained on Main Street from Route 62 to south of Edward Street. North Harrison Street will remain a one-way road for southbound traffic from Edward Street to Route 62.

“Drivers are asked to follow the posted detour and drive with caution through construction zones,” the village said in the release.

The road is expected to be closed through early next summer, according to the village.

The construction is being done as part of Algonquin’s Around and About Main Street Project, which began earlier this fall.

The project includes installing a roundabout at North Main Street and Cary-Algonquin Road; resurfacing North Harrison Street from Blackhawk Trail to Algonquin Road and west of Washington Street, as well as some other area roads; building a new switchback road to provide one-way access to Riverview Drive from Main Street; and creating a bicycle path from the roundabout to Riverview Drive, from Park Street to North Harrison Street and a connection to the Old Town Prairie Trail on South Harrison Street.
