Cary business damaged in Tuesday morning fire

A Cary manufacturing business was damaged in a fire Tuesday morning, the Cary Fire Protection District said.

About 6:40 a.m., firefighters responded to Durex Industries at 190 Detroit St. in Cary for a reported structured fire, according to a news release. Upon arriving, firefighters found smoke coming from the roof on the back side of the building.

Employees told firefighters a fire was located in the ceiling above a furnace, and firefighters found extension of the fire to the roof, according to the release.

Officials said the fire was quickly under control and the cause of the fire still is being investigated. A damage estimate also was not available. Employees were able to evacuate the building and no one was injured in the incident.

Employees of the business were able to return to work after the incident, according to the release.

Durex Industries is a manufacturing business that produces heaters, temperature sensors and control panels, according to the company’s website.

Cary firefighters received help from five nearby fire departments, according to the release.
