Huntley High School put under lockdown Wednesday

Students dismissed at 3:15 p.m.

No threat to school safety was identified following a police investigation at Huntley High School Wednesday afternoon, a Huntley School District 158 spokeswoman said.

At about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, police were called to the high school for a report of a possible weapon brought to the campus, district spokeswoman Alex LeMoine said in a statement. The school was placed on a “Hold in Place and Teach,” which prohibits movement around the building and exit and entry from the school, but allows classes to continue inside classrooms.

Access was also limited at Leggee Elementary School, which is located nearby, LeMoine said.

The Huntley Police Department said on Twitter at 3:15 p.m. that the schools were secure.

“We have determined in collaboration with [District 158] and [Huntley High School] that there is no credible threat to students or staff safety at HHS,” the department said in the tweet.

Both schools were allowed to begin dismissing students for the day following the investigation. LeMoine said students were released a staggered times with an increased police presence on campus.

“Please be advised that officials will be directing traffic on Harmony Road to accommodate buses and families may experience delays,” police wrote in a Facebook post.

After school activities were allowed to be conducted as normal, though students who did not have a scheduled activity were required to leave campus.
