5 things to do in McHenry County: Movie night at the Lake in the Hills airport, Jumptoberfest at Norge and Fall at the Faire in Woodstock

1. A Movie Night at the Airport will feature “Monsters Inc.” this Friday evening at the Lake in the Hills 3CK Airport, 8397 Pyott Road.

The gate will open at 6 p.m., and the movie will start at dusk.

Attendees are welcome to bring chairs, blankets and picnics. No alcohol allowed. Snacks, drinks and glow products also will be available to buy.

Tickets cost $3 for Lake in the Hills residents and $4 for nonresidents who pre-register. Tickets will cost $5 for Lake in the Hills residents and $6 for nonresidents at the gate.

2. Jumptoberfest where ski jumpers from around the world compete on Norge Ski Club’s 70-meter hill is set for this weekend.

The event will take place noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with the junior tournament on the small hills at noon Saturday followed by the K70 Big Hill and then K70 Big Hill Tournament and Longest Standing Competition on Sunday.

Brats, hot dogs, pizza, popcorn, pop, beer, wine and Jägermeister will be available to buy. Norge Ski Club is located at 100 Ski Hill Road in Fox River Grove.

Buttons are required for entry and must be purchased by Friday. Good for both days, they cost $15 and can be bought online or through local merchants. Buttons are $20 when bought at the gate.

Admission is free for children 12 and younger. Attendees are welcome to bring blankets and lawn chairs.

3. The inaugural McHenry County Fall at the Faire will offer free pumpkin painting and scarecrow building for the kids in addition to crafters and vendors to peruse.

The event will take place 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the McHenry County Fairgrounds, 12015 Country Club Road, Woodstock.

Families are advised to bring old kids clothes to make their scarecrows. Ag of the Past will have tractors for kids to sit on and pretend to drive. Crafters, farm toy stores and vendors will on site, including Von Bergen’s Country Market selling pumpkins, doughnuts and other goods. Food trucks also will be available.

4. This year’s Woodstock Ale Fest will feature a heavy emphasis on local neighborhood breweries within 100 miles of Woodstock that bring something unique to the table, organizers said.

The event will take place 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the corner of Clay and Newell streets in downtown Woodstock, north of the historic Square.

General admission tickets cost $40 and include 15 tickets for 3-ounce beer samples and a commemorative Woodstock Ale Fest glass. Designated driver tickets cost $15 and include pop, water and a commemorative Woodstock Ale Fest glass. Tickets for VIP tables also are available to buy.

Net proceeds from the festival benefit Independence Health and Therapy, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

5. The Cary Police Department is hosting its National Night Out festivities this week after postponing them in August because of the pandemic.

First up is a Family Day 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Cary Lake at Rotary Park, 1300 Klasen Road, which will feature music, food trucks, bags and other game. Then 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday is a meet-and-greet hosted by the Cary Fire Protection District at Cary Fire Station, 1400 Cary-Algonquin Road.

On Monday, Cary fire and police staff will be at Cary Dairy Ice Cream Cafe, 395 Cary-Algonquin Road, from 5 to 7 p.m., and then Tuesday will be the National Night Out event 5 to 7 p.m. at the future Cary Municipal Center, 755 Georgetown Drive.

The week continues with coffee with Cary police 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 6 at the McDonald’s, 678 Northwest Highway in Cary and a Movie in the Park at 7 p.m. Oct. 7 at Lions Park, 1200 Silver Lake Road in Cary.
