Friends of MCC Foundation Golf Invitational raises more than $87,000 for scholarships

The 34th annual Friends of McHenry County College Foundation Golf Invitational raised more than $87,000 for student scholarships and programs earlier this summer, according to a news release.

Almost 100 golfers participated in the event, which took place June 7 at the Crystal Lake Country Club.

James Fritz of the Rosati’s Woodstock foursome sank a birdie putt on the Champions Hole to win a $1,000 scholarship for one McHenry County College student, and golfer Erik Hertel landed a hole-in-one on No. 17 to win a weekend stay and round of golf at Treetops Resort in Michigan.

“We’re so thankful for the support we receive each year from our sponsors and golfers,” foundation Executive Director Brian DiBona said in a statement. “This event makes such an impact in our goal of helping students stay in school when other circumstances may interrupt their educational goals. The funds raised here are truly making a difference in the lives of our students.”

The event opened at 8 a.m. with breakfast and a putting contest followed by a shotgun start at 10 a.m. The outing included 18 holes of golf in a scramble format, a grill lunch, a reception featuring complimentary cocktails and music, and an awards presentation.

MCC students and scholarship recipients Marco Gonzalez and Edith Sanchez also were present at the event to share their stories with attendees.
