Marengo crash involving horse trailer sends two to hospital

Two people were hurt in a crash Saturday evening in Marengo that involved a trailer carrying a pony.

The Marengo Fire & Rescue District responded at 6:16 p.m. to the intersection of Route 23 and Kishwaukee Valley Road for a two-vehicle crash, according to a news release.

Two vehicles sustained moderate damage, including a red pickup truck pulling a trailer that went off the roadway and crashed through a nearby fence, according to the release. The other vehicle, a white Mercedes, remained in the road.

The driver of the pickup truck and white Mercedes were both taken to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital in good condition, according to fire officials.

The trailer was occupied by a pony, but officials say the pony was not injured in the crash. A new trailer came to pick up the pony from the scene.

The crash is under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, which was not immediately for comment Sunday.
