A child was pulled from a pond in Lake in the Hills by bystanders who began resuscitative efforts, the Huntley Fire Protection District said in a news release Friday.

Lake in the Hills police were called to the zero to 100 block of Point O Woods Court for a missing boy who had wandered away from his home, according to the police department.

Golfers on the Boulder Ridge Golf Course found the boy unresponsive in a pond on the course and began CPR, the police department said.

The Huntley Fire Protection District subsequently responded at 12:40 p.m. to the 1000 Block of Mason Lane in Lake in the Hills, according to the district.

When paramedics arrived at the scene, they treated the child and took him to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital in critical condition. The police department said he was later flown to Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.

“We would like to remind the residents that bystander CPR can make a difference,” the Huntley fire district said.
