‘While we are still gathering evidence, we are sure there is no danger to the public as a result of this incident,’ Crystal Lake police say

Crystal Lake police are investigating the death of a 34-year-old man whose body was discovered Sunday in the area of Oak Street south of Shipland Drive.

Officials with the Crystal Lake Police Department and Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded at 8:29 a.m. Sunday to the report of an unconscious male, according to a news release the police department sent about 3 p.m. Monday.

The McHenry County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Jeremy Ochal of Crystal Lake, and said he was found lying face down in a grassy area. He was not immediately identified because no ID or cellphone was found on his person, the coroner’s office said.

When officers arrived, they located the body and saw no obvious signs of injury to the man, according to the police department’s release.

The coroner’s office performed an autopsy Monday, and toxicology test results are pending. A preliminary cause of death was not released.

“This case is considered an active investigation,” the Crystal Lake Police Department said in its release. “While we are still gathering evidence, we are sure there is no danger to the public as a result of this incident.
