Algonquin under water-use restrictions due to drought

Dry conditions are not expected to end any time soon

Because of ongoing drought conditions, Algonquin has placed restrictions on outdoor water use.

Other municipalities, including the city of Woodstock, also made similar moves as a lack of rain this past spring has concerned farmers and caused McHenry County’s wells to reach some of the lowest levels they’ve seen in years.

Under Algonquin’s current water conservation status, outdoor water use is allowed only before 9 a.m. and after 6 p.m on alternating days, based on address. Addresses ending in even digits can water only on even-numbered calendar days, while addresses ending in odd digits can water only on odd-numbered calendar days, city officials said.

Dry conditions are not expected to end any time soon, and property owners have been advised to let their lawns brown a bit instead of trying to keep watering.
