Chicago man charged in armed robbery of Woodstock Super 8 Motel

There were no reported physical injuries to anyone in the hotel, Woodstock Deputy Police Chief Ray Lanz says

A Chicago man was arrested Tuesday in connection with an armed robbery at the Woodstock Super 8 Motel that happened last year.

The Woodstock Police Department was dispatched at 10:30 p.m. May 17, 2020, to the Super 8 on 1220 Davis Road for an armed robbery that had just occurred, according to a news release.

The victim reported that as he was working at the hotel’s counter, a person approached him and demanded money from the cash register while displaying a handgun.

There were no reported physical injuries to anyone in the hotel, Woodstock Deputy Police Chief Ray Lanz said.

Witness statements and multiple pieces of evidence were collected at and near the scene, and the Boone County Sheriff’s Office used its K-9 unit to track the suspect.

A search warrant was executed on a Woodstock residence that produced additional evidence.

Another search warrant that was executed on a residence in Lake in the Hills also produced additional evidence in the case.

A monthslong investigation led to the identification of Trent J. Keegan, 27, of the 4000 block of North Hazel Street, Chicago, as a suspect in the case.

This investigation took months, Lanz said, as it takes time to go over victim and witness statements, gather evidence and send in reports before getting them back from the laboratory.

Upon conferring with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office, several felony charges were approved against Keegan on May 26.

With the assistance of the Chicago Police Department’s Fugitive Apprehension Team, Keegan was taken into custody without incident Tuesday.

He is in custody at the Cook County Jail.

At this time, the Woodstock Police Department is not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident, Lanz said.
