House in Johnsburg uninhabitable after fire

The home was not occupied at the time of the fire.

A house in Johnsburg was left uninhabitable after a fire on Friday evening.

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded to a reported house on fire in the 4100 block of Riverview Drive in Johnsburg about 6:50 p.m., according to a news release.

When the first fire company arrived, it found smoke coming from the rear of a two-story, single-family dwelling.

The home was not occupied at the time of the fire.

Crews extinguished the fire within 20 minutes. There was extensive damage to the house and its contents.

The cause of the fire has not been determined and is under investigation.

The Cary Fire Department, Wonder Lake Fire District, Huntley Fire District, Nunda Rural Fire District, Spring Grove Fire District, Round Lake Fire Department and the Lake Villa Fire District assisted in covering the McHenry Township Fire Protection District’s quarters while the fire was extinguished.
