Rentals start for Crystal Lake Park District’s community garden plots

Returning gardeners can snag the same plots now before rentals open to everyone

Rentals for community garden plots at Hill Farm Acres are open now for returning gardeners looking to keep their same plot as last year and will be opening to others in the coming weeks, the Crystal Lake Park District said in a news release.

Garden plots, 20 feet by 40 feet, are available to both residents and non-residents for a fee. The cost is $40 per plot for residents, $20 for residents 60 years or older, $55 for non-residents and $40 for non-residents 60 years or older.

Registration must be completed in person at the Crystal Lake Park District Administrative Office, 1 E. Crystal Lake Ave.

Registration is restricted to returning gardeners looking to keep the same plot as last year through Friday, according to the release. Starting Monday, returning gardeners looking to switch to a new plot can register.

Registration opens to all park district residents March 8 and then to non-residents March 15.

Hill Farm Acres is located at 695 Barlina Road, behind Barlina House Preschool in Crystal Lake. The growing season for the garden starts whenever the soil is able to be cultivated, typically around May 1, and goes until Oct. 31.

Complete soil preparation and garden plot guidelines are available at the time of plot reservation.
