Firefighter suffers minor injuries in response to Algonquin structure fire that caused significant damage

Cause remains under investigation, and not suspicious, but chimney suspected starting point

A firefighter suffered minor injuries while responding to a house fire about 9 p.m. Tuesday in the 2200 block of Tahoe Parkway in Algonquin that caused significant damage to the structure, said Algonqiun-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District Capt. Steve Ciaccio.

No civilians were injured, and all occupants of the home were out of the structure by the time crews arrived.

Fire crews had to open up ceilings and walls in the home to prevent the fire from spreading, Ciaccio said.

The blaze was reported under control at 9:25 p.m. after the 9:10 p.m. arrival of firefighters to the scene, Ciaccio said.

“They did a good job,” Ciaccio said of the firefighters who battled the blaze.

While the fire’s cause remains under investigation, Ciaccio said its starting point is suspected to be the chimney on the property.

The incident is not suspicious in nature, he said.
