Wonder Lake house fire not suspicious, but still under investigation after woman found dead

Vickie Arnolde found deceased by firefighters, but cause of fire, manner of death still undetermined

The Dec. 27 fire that burned a Wonder Lake residence and where a 64-year-old woman was found dead by firefighters is not considered suspicious, Wonder Lake Fire Protection District Chief Mike Weber said Wednesday.

The cause of the fire, although, remains under investigation by local and regional fire investigation agencies, Weber said.

McHenry County Coroner Michael Rein said this week the cause and manner of Vickie Arnolde’s death has yet to be determined.

Arnolde was remembered by her daughter as a nature-lover who could make friends with the stranger checking out her groceries, the Northwest Herald reported.

Arnolde moved to Wonder Lake after living in Lake in the Hills, where she grew up, for a little while after her divorce, according to her obituary. She enjoyed living in Wonder Lake, where she could watch the blue heron and egret on the lake outside her window.
