McHenry County Conservation District seeks candidates for governing board

Trustees are volunteer, non-partisan positions with five-year terms

The McHenry County Conservation District is looking for residents with “a passion to protect and preserve the natural communities of McHenry County” to serve on its governing board, according to a news release.

The McHenry County Conservation District’s Board of Trustees is made up of seven members who serve five-year terms. The trustees are appointed by the McHenry County Board chairman with the approval of the County Board.

Trustees help develop the conservation district’s long-range plans, establish policy, chart its strategic course and decide the educational and recreational uses of the district’s properties.

Interested candidates should submit completed application to the County Board office, McHenry County Government Center, 2200 North Seminary Ave., Woodstock, IL 60098.

Interviews are conducted by the county and the appointment would be made by June 1. Selected trustees would then serve a 5-year term that begins July 1, 2021, and expires June 30, 2026.

Trustees are volunteer, non-partisan positions. To qualify, applicants must be a resident of McHenry County and a registered voter and cannot hold any other political office and or be officers of a political party. In the past, trustees’ backgrounds have included environmental initiatives, development, law, education, finance and agriculture.
