Richmond-Burton alum Jordan Hahn cards 7-over 78 in PGA Tour debut

Jordan Hahn’s promising start to his PGA Tour debut at the Valspar Championship quickly faded Thursday.

The 23-year-old Richmond-Burton graduate was 1-under par through five holes after back-to-back birdies, but Hahn finished his first tour round with a 7-over 78 at Innisbrook Copperhead in Palm Harbor, Florida.

Keegan Bradley leads a group of five players by two shots after a 7-under 64.

Hahn, of Spring Grove, followed the birdies with three straight bogeys and then posted a 5-over 40 on the back nine, including a double bogey on the par-3 17th. Hahn’s tee shot found the right-side bunker and his attempt to get out of the trap found its way across the green and into the front left-side bunker.

Hahn qualified for this weekend’s event by firing a 6-under 66 at Southern Hills Plantation in Brooksville, Florida in a Monday PGA Tour qualifier. The University of Wisconsin graduate recently has played as a a Korn Ferry Tour alternate and lives in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Hahn will tee off for his second round at 10:07 a.m. Friday.
