Boys basketball: Burlington Central’s Sarvis is 3A All-State honorable mention

Burlington Central forward Gavin Sarvis was named to The Associated Press Class 3A All-State team as an honorable-mention selection on Thursday.

Sarvis averaged 14.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.9 steals a game for the 16-1 Rockets, who won both the Fox Valley Conference regular season and the FVC Tournament.

Woodstock North’s Cole Brey received one vote, but did not get honorable mention status in Class 3A. Sarvis and Brey were both Northwest Herald All-Area first-team selections, as was Marengo’s Matthew Volkening (Player of the Year), who received Class 2A All-State honorable mention on Wednesday.

The Class 3A first team was Fenwick’s Bryce Hopkins, DePaul College Prep’s T.Y. Johnson, Kenwood’s J.J. Taylor, Oak Forest’s Robbie Avila and Niles Notre Dame’s Louis Lesmond. The second team was Hillcrest’s Julius Rollins, Effingham’s Parker Wolfe, Niles Notre Dame’s Troy D’Amico, Danville’s Tevin Smith, Springfield Lanphier’s K.J. Debrick and Peoria Notre Dame’s Noah Reynolds.

The Class 4A first team was Rolling Meadows’ Max Christie, Whitney Young’s A.J. Casey, Simeon’s Isaiah Barnes, Evanston’s Blake Peters and Buffalo Grove’s Kam Craft. The second team was Thornton’s Brandon Hall, Glenbrook South’s Nick Martinelli, Mundelein’s Conor Enright, Edwardsville’s Brennan Weller and Waubonsie Valley’s Ben Schweiger.
