High school baseball: Three local players receive All-State honors

Prairie Ridge outfielder Will Komar (25) dives for a catch in the third inning of the game at Prairie Ridge on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, in Crystal Lake, Ill. The Wolves lost in extra innings, 12-10.

Three local players have been named to the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association All-State teams for their respective classes.

Prairie Ridge outfielder Will Komar and Woodstock North shortstop-pitcher Felipe DeAvila were selected to the Class 3A team. Richmond-Burton catcher Hayden Christiansen was named to the Class 2A team.

Komar ignited the Wolves’ offense from the leadoff spot with his speed and high on-base percentage. Prairie Ridge lost to Springfield, 8-7, in the Class 3A State Tournament championship game.

DeAvila was a standout at shortstop for the Thunder. He was a returning starter, having played shortstop as a sophomore in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic wiped out the 2020 season.

Christiansen, a junior committed to Xavier, started at catcher for R-B as a freshman. This season, he tied the Rockets’ season record for home runs held by Nate Roberts (11) as R-B finished 25-6, their second-most wins in school history.
