High school sports roundup for Monday, Oct. 25

Marengo defeated Kishwaukee River Conference rival Johnsburg, 26-24, 25-22, Monday in their Class 2A Marengo Regional first-round match in Marengo.

Gianna Almeida had six kills, five digs and a block for Marengo, Bella Simonini had five kills, and Michaela Almeida and Mia Lulinski tallied four kills each. Addie Johnson had 21 assists and 21 digs, while Courtney Jasinski had nine digs and an ace.

Marengo faces Aurora Central Catholic at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the semifinals.

Marian Central 2, Wheaton Academy 0: At Genoa, the Hurricanes ran away with a 25-8, 25-16 win in their Class 2A Genoa-Kingston Regional first-round match.

Valle Leggett had four kills, six digs and a block for the Hurricanes, Kate Rodden had four kills, two aces and five digs, and Jessa Passi had four aces and five digs. Danielle Lipnisky posted three kills for Marian.

The Hurricanes play top-seeded Genoa-Kingston at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the semifinals.

Woodstock 2, Belvidere 0: At Belvidere, the Blue Streaks advanced to the semifinals of the Class 3A Belvidere North Regional with a 25-23, 25-18 victory.

Dundee-Crown 2, Elgin 0: At Huntley, the Chargers picked up a Class 4A Huntley Regional first-round victory over the Maroons, 25-10, 25-15.

Rachel Piluski and Audrey Prusko posted five kills apiece in the win. Makena Wesol tallied four kills and Courtney Komperda had 10 assists and four aces in the victory.

Dundee-Crown plays Huntley at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the semifinals.

Richmond-Burton 2, Cristo Rey 0: At Marengo, the Rockets defeated the Cristeras, 25-12, 25-2, to advance to Class 2A Marengo Regional semifinals.

Elissa Furlan had seven kills, one ace and two digs, Maggie Uhwat had six kills, eight aces and two digs, and Kaitlyn Lehecka added five kills. Also for R-B, Maddie Havlicek had four kills and an ace, Alex Hopp had eight assists and Mia Finnen had six assists.

The Rockets play Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the semifinals.

Aquin 2, Alden-Hebron 0: At Lena, the Giantsโ€™ season came to an end with a 25-4, 25-5 loss to the Bulldogs in the first round of the Class 1A Lena-Winslow Regional.
