Crystal Lake South tops Crystal Lake Central to reach boys soccer regional final

Crystal Lake South advanced to the championship match of the Class 2A Crystal Lake South Regional with a 2-0 win over Crystal Lake Central on Tuesday.

Tomasz Slawek and Ali Ahmed each scored a goal for the Gators as they ended the cross-town Tigers’ season. The win improved South to 16-3-2 on the season and lined up a matchup with either Harvard or Wauconda in the regional final.

Carmel 2, Cary-Grove 1: At Deerfield, the Trojans’ season came to an end in the semifinal round of the Class 2A Deerfield Regional.

Huntley 1, McHenry 0: At DeKalb, the Red Raiders earned a Class 3A DeKalb Regional semifinal victory in a three-save shutout from keeper Ethan Kornas.

Thomas Rodriguez scored the deciding goal for Huntley (17-2-2) to secure a spot in the regional championship match.

Dundee-Crown 2, Auburn 0: At Machesney Park, the Chargers kept their season going with a shutout win over Auburn in the Class 3A Harlem Regional.

D-C will take on Larkin in the regional title match.

Larkin 2, Jacobs 1: At Machesney Park, the Golden Eagles saw their season come to a close in the Class 3A Harlem Regional semis.

Jefferson 2, Hampshire 1: At Fox Lake, the Whip-Purs came up just short in a season-ending loss at the Class 3A Grant Regional.

Juan Martinez scored for the Whips in the loss.

Lake Forest 5, Woodstock North 4: At Vernon Hills, the Thunder’s season came to a close in the Class 3A Vernon Hills Regional semifinals with a high-scoring loss.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Johnsburg 2, Round Lake 0: At Round Lake, the Skyhawks coasted to a comfortable 25-17, 25-15 win.

Allie Burke had five kills in the win, Kaylee Fouke had four kills, Delaney Stern dished out 10 assists and Gracie Notriano had eight digs.

Huntley 2, Dundee-Crown 0: At Carpentersville, the Red Raiders improved to 24-10 overall and 13-4 in Fox Valley Conference play with a 25-12, 25-12 win over the Chargers.

Lauren Bauer had eight kills in the win, Ally Panzloff had seven kills and nine digs, Luma Acevedo had 18 digs, and Maggie Duyos added 21 assists and eight digs.

Crystal Lake South 2, Prairie Ridge 0: At Crystal Lake, the Gators picked up an FVC win at home, 25-22, 25-20, over the Wolves.

Ansley Morlock had 10 kills and six digs in the loss, and Rilee Schulze added 10 assists and three digs.

Jacobs 2, Hampshire 1: At Hampshire, the Golden Eagles snagged a 25-20, 22-25, 25-23 win over the Whip-Purs.

Meredith Giustino had 14 digs, Rachel Kaczorowski dished out 22 assists, and Jacly Poirier added 11 kills as Jacobs improved to 22-10 overall and 11-6 in the FVC.

Jacey Lambert had 14 kills for the Whips as they fell to 14-19 overall and 5-12 in conference play.

Marian Catholic 2, Marian Central 0: At Woodstock, the Hurricanes came up short in a 25-13, 25-21 loss at home.

Kate Rodden had five kills and five digs in the loss, Valle Leggett had seven digs and five kills, and Kaitlyn Mullen added 10 assists.
