Cary-Groves’ Tom Latawiec scores a pair of goals in win over McHenry

A pair of first-half goals from Tom Latawiec made all the difference for Cary-Grove boys soccer in a 2-0 Fox Valley Conference win over McHenry on Thursday on the road.

Latawiec scored his first goal on an assist from Jack Eggenberger, and the second goal was assisted by Kameron Fadden. Goalkeeper Sam Kedzior made five saves for the Trojans (3-4-1 overall, 3-1 FVC) in the clean-sheet victory.

Prairie Ridge 3, Jacobs 2: At Crystal Lake, the Wolves came away with a narrow overtime win thanks to a game-winning goal from Henry Knoll.

Jake Pinkerton scored twice in regulation, assisted both times by Knoll, and also assisted on Knoll’s game-winner. PR Goalkeeper Daniel Llanquiman made nine saves in the victory.

Crystal Lake Central 3, Hampshire 0: At Crystal Lake, Joseph Gumecindo had two goals to help the Tigers get past the Whip-Purs.

Evin Perez added a goal, and goalkeeper Joey Moore made four saves in the shutout for CLC (1-4, 1-3 FVC).

VOLLEYBALL

Prairie Ridge 2, McHenry 0: At Crystal Lake, the Wolves beat the visiting Warriors, 25-21, 25-22, in an FVC showdown.

Haylee Yelle led the Wolves (7-10, 4-6 FVC)with 11 kills and three digs. Grace Jansen added 10 assists and six digs, and Rilee Schulze had 10 assists and three digs.

Ella Boland and Abbie Honkala had eight kills each for McHenry (10-6, 5-5 FVC).

Cary-Grove 2, Dundee-Crown 0: At Carpentersville, the Trojans locked up a comfortable win against the Chargers, 25-13, 25-9, on the road.

D-C fell to 4-14 overall and 1-9 in the FVC.

Crystal Lake Central 2, Huntley 0: At Crystal Lake, the Tigers outlasted the Red Raiders, 30-28, 25-20, in a FVC showdown.

McKenna Timmerman had 13 kills and nine digs for CLC, and Lauren Klutke added 16 assists and six digs.

Ally Panzloff had seven kills and Maggie Duyos had 16 assists for Huntley (8-4, 7-3 FVC).

Crystal Lake South 2, Jacobs 0: At Crystal Lake, the Gators earned an FVC win, 25-17, 27-25, over the Golden Eagles (10-5, 7-3).

Jessie Proszenyak led CLS with eight kills, Faith Gruenwald added 18 assists and five digs, and Alyssa Zagroba had nine digs and a pair of aces.

Jaclyn Poirier had nine kills, and Meredith Giustino had seven digs.

GIRLS GOLF

Marian Central 190, Hampshire 205: At Randall Oaks, Nina Notaro shot a 44 to lead the way for the Hurricanes on the road.

Ava Notaro shot 46, Jasmine Stevens finished in 48 strokes, and Ella Notaro rounded out the qualifiers with a 52.

Lily Farnam led the Whip-Purs with a 46.

GIRLS TENNIS

Cary-Grove 5, Jacobs 2: At Cary, the Trojans struggled at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles but made up for it with wins in every other match.

Addie Lee and Chloe Warner led the charge for C-G (10-7, 3-2 FVC) with a pair of 6-1, 6-1 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles.

Kylie Cohn picked up a win at No. 1 singles for the Golden Eagles.

Huntley 7, Hampshire 0: At Hampshire, the Red Raiders engineered a clean sweep of the Whip-Purs to improve to 5-0 in FVC action.

Elaina Hibbeler led the charge for Huntley with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles.

Marian Central 4, Woodstock 3: At Woodstock, the Hurricanes took two singles matches and forced a split in doubles to come away with a win over the Blue Streaks.

Kaitlin Remke earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles for Marian Central, and Madison Kenyon won, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 2 singles.

Marta Frito led Woodstock with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.
