High school sports roundup for Thursday, Sep. 16

The Red Raiders girls volleyball team survived a back-and-forth battle with Dundee-Crown on Thursday in Huntley, beating the Chargers, 25-22, 18-25, 25-11, to improve to 8-1 overall and 7-1 in the Fox Valley Conference.

Avary Deblieck had 14 kills and seven blocks, Ally Panzloff had nine kills and 12 digs, Maggie Duyos had three kills, 22 assists and 12 digs, and Lauren Bauer had 31 digs for Huntley.

McHenry 2, Crystal Lake Central 0: At McHenry, the Warriors slipped past the Tigers, 25-22, 25-19.

Mollie Hobson led McHenry with nine kills, Abbie Honkala added seven kills, and Aspen O’Brien had 17 assists.

McKenna Timmerman had a strong outing for Central in the loss, picking up 10 kills, seven digs and and three aces.

Jacobs 2, Hampshire 0: At Algonquin, the Golden Eagles (9-4, 6-2) completed a 25-15, 25-22 takedown of the Whip-Purs.

Jacobs’ Ireland Van Stone led the charge with 10 kills and eight digs, Rachel Kaczorowski had 20 assists, five kills and three digs, and Meredith Giustino added 21 digs.

Lakes 2, Marian Central 1: At Woodstock, the Hurricanes had victory in sight but failed to seal the deal in a 22-25, 27-25, 25-17 loss.

Marian’s Ella Conlon had eight kills, three digs and three blocks in the loss. Kate Rodden had four kills and 10 digs, and Kaitlyn Mullen and Grace Adams finished with 12 assists each.

BOYS SOCCER

Jacobs 2, Crystal Lake Central 0: At Crystal Lake, the Golden Eagles scored two first-half goals to pick up the win over the Tigers.

Ruben Zarate scored once on an assist from Nevin Volarath, and Volarath scored a goal of his own for Jacobs.

Crystal Lake South 4, Cary-Grove 0: At Crystal Lake, the Gators (8-1-1, 2-0) had a comfortable win over the Trojans.

Nolan Getzinger scored twice, Michal Dejworek had a goal and two assists, and Tom Coughlin scored once for CLS. Logan Vargas earned the shutout at keeper.

Grayslake North 1, McHenry 0: At McHenry, one defensive lapse cost the Warriors a win against the Knights.

Tyler Juergensen made seven saves for McHenry (1-5-2).

BOYS GOLF

Crystal Lake Central 165, McHenry 176: At McHenry Country Club, Eric Klutke won medalist honors to lead the Tigers to a win.

Klutke shot a 1-over-par 36 to lead the field, while teammate Christian Wakeford shot a 41. Sam Huff’s 42 was tops for McHenry.

Marian Central 180, Crystal Lake South 184: At Turnberry Country Club in Crystal Lake, Owen Jager’s medal-winning round of 39 led the way for Marian Central in the win.

Peter Louise (45) and Finn Pivnicka (46) also qualified for the Hurricanes. Nate Stewart (41) and Bryce Strum (42) topped the scorecard for the Gators.

Burlington Central 158, Cary-Grove 174: At Foxford, Tyson Malak and Ivan Larson shot twin rounds of 38 to earn co-medalist honors and lead the Rockets to a road victory.

Cody Leon and Chaz Rutke each shot 41 to round out the Central qualifiers, while Kyle Kotlarczyk led Cary-Grove with a 41.

Jacobs 175, Hampshire 181: At Randall Oaks, Justin Cunningham led the field with a medal-winning 41 as the Golden Eagles earned an FVC win at home.

Braeden Behrens and Jason Seaholm each shot a 44 for Jacobs. Seth Gillie also shot 44 to lead the Whips.

Huntley 152, Dundee-Crown 171: At Pinecrest, the Red Raiders finished their FVC schedule with a 9-0 record after a comfortable win over the Chargers.

Josh Good and Nathan Elm shared medalist honors with a pair of 1-over-par 37s. Danny Sheedy and Cole Modrich also qualified with 39s. Yash Dulla led D-C with a 40.

GIRLS GOLF

McHenry County Tournament: At Boone Creek, Huntley was victorious by a comfortable 14-stroke margin to take home this year’s county cup with a team score of 361.

Aubrey Dingbaum led the Red Raiders with an 83, which tied her for the fourth-best individual score. Prairie Ridge’s Elizabeth Tucker was the individual winner at 78, edging McHenry’s Madison Donovan by two strokes. Harvard’s Julia Chupich finished third with an 82, and Marian Central’s Ava Notaro finished tied for fourth with Dingbaum.

Notaro’s Hurricanes took second place with a 375, McHenry finished third at 377, and Crystal Lake Co-op was fourth at 404.

Hampshire 210, Hoffman Estates 210: At Randall Oaks, the Whips tied Hoffman Estates at home.

Lily Farnam led everybody a 43.

GIRLS TENNIS

Marian Central 5, Marengo 1: At Marengo, the Hurricanes breezed past Marengo.

Kaitlin Remke, Madison Kenyon and Madeline Huff had singles victories for Marian Central.

McHenry 4, Hampshire 3: At Hampshire, the Warriors swept the singles matches, and notched the clinching victory at No. 4 doubles.

Lani Cox led the way for McHenry with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles, while Katrina Newfeld won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Emma Henrichsen took No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-3.

Huntley 5, Jacobs 2: At Algonquin, the Red Raiders improved to 4-0 in the FVC with a win over the Golden Eagles.

Elaina Hibbeler and Ari Patel led Huntley with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.

Crystal Lake Central 7, Dundee-Crown 0: At Carpentersville, the Tigers (12-2, 4-1) earned their second straight sweep of an FVC opponent by taking down the Chargers.

Grayslake North 4, Johnsburg 3: At Grayslake, the Skyhawks came up just short on the road.

Gracie Cittadino was a bright spot in spite of the loss, winning her no. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-0.
