Crystal Lake South softball team rallies past Crystal Lake Central

Crystal Lake South’s softball team spotted Crystal Lake Central a 6-0 lead after a half inning but rallied for a 9-8 win in Fox Valley Conference action on Monday.

Kennedy Grippo (two doubles), Molly Cook (five RBIs) and Dana Skorich each had three hits for South, which scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to erase an 8-5 deficit. Brook Kuffel was 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs for the Gators.

Central, which scored six runs in the top of the first, got two hits apiece from Giada Motto (double, RBI), Gianna Carone (double, two RBIs) and Baylee Snell (double, RBI). Olivia Arndt also had a double.

Johnsburg 7, Harvard 1: At Harvard, Addison Mass struck out 16 batters and went 3 for 4 at the plate as the Skyhawks won in Kishwaukee River Conference action.

Brooke Kloowicz went 3 for 4 with a solo homer for Johnsburg, Nicole Jihlavec was 2 for 4 with a double, and Megan Patterson and Emmy Wizceb each tripled.

Huntley 8, Prairie Ridge 4: At Huntley, the Red Raiders earned the FVC win.

Prairie Ridge (3-4, 3-3) received a 2-for-3 effort from Emily Harlow, who also had an RBI. Carleigh Johnson and Elena Smith both had a triple and an RBI.

Hampshire 11, Cary-Grove 10: At Cary, trailing 10-8, the Whip-Purs scored three runs in the top of the seventh to pull out the FVC win.

Abby Lentz was 3 for 5 with a homer and three RBIs for Hampshire.

Katelyn O’Malley was 4 for 4 with two RBIs for Cary-Grove, and Kaley Koltz went 3 for 4. Rebecca Weaver allowed only two earned runs in seven innings in taking the loss.

Richmond-Burton 12, Woodstock North 2: At Woodstock, Rachel Baker had a big day, going 4 for 4 with a homer, two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored for the Rockets in the KRC game.

Carys De Lucia was 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs for R-B, which also received two-hit games from Norah Spittler (double) and Taylor Davison.

North’s Norah Mungle (2 for 3) doubled twice, and Alyssa Carlin also had a double for the Thunder.

SATURDAY’S RESULT

Alden-Hebron 19-14, Harvest Christian 7-1: At Hebron, the Giants swept their Northeastern Athletic Conference doubleheader.

In Game 1, Abby Wanderer pitched a complete game with 12 strikeouts and helped her own cause with a hit and four RBIs. Corrine Elswick, Korhyn Geary and Rhayn Holicz (four RBIs) each had two hits. Hannah Reiter and Lizbeth Olmedo contributed hits as well.

In Game 2, Elswick struck out nine in a five-inning complete game. Reiter, Holicz (three RBIs) and Geary all had a hit. Elswick and Wanderer each drove in two runs.

BASEBALL

McHenry 11, Crystal Lake Central 5: At Crystal Lake, Warriors coach Brian Rockweiler earned his 300th career win.

Cooper Cohn was 4 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs for McHenry in the FVC game. Logan Wirtz went 3 for 4 with a double, and Ricky Powell was 2 for 4 with a homer and two RBIs. Kyle Kaempf (double, two RBIs) and Eddie Synek (triple, three RBIs) also had two hits. Jaedin Kotecki contributed a double.

Central’s Braydon Gibour was 3 for 4 with three RBIs.

Woodstock 13, Richmond-Burton 7: At Richmond, Braden Barrette was 3 for 3 to lead a 12-hit attack for the Blue Streaks in the KRC game.

Woodstock’s other highlights included Travis Cote’s RBI double, Gavin Loiselle’s two-run double. Loiselle had two doubles, and Travis Cote had one as well. Sam Chapman and Alex Wojnicki were both 2 for 5.

Richmond-Burton (9-2, 3-1) got home runs from Hayden Christiansen, Brock Wood and Jason Miller. Christiansen and Miller each had a double as well.

Huntley 6, Burlington Central 0: At Burlington, Michael Moise fired a two-hitter, striking out six and not walking a batter as the Red Raiders earned the FVC win.

Joey Garlin led the way offensively for Huntley, going 3 for 4 with an RBI. Tyler Castro and Brayden Bakes (double, RBI) were both 2 for 3.

Central’s Aaron Wojceochowski threw five innings, striking out nine and allowing three earned runs.

Jacobs 4, Crystal Lake South 3: At Algonquin, a four-run bottom of the fifth inning for the Golden Eagles was the difference in the FVC game.

South’s Nathanel Freeze was 2 for 2.

Harvard 3, Woodstock North 1: At Harvard, Jacob Stanley struck out 12 and walked two in 6 1/3 innings, leading the Hornets to the KRC win.

Lee Galarza (1 for 3) had Harvard’s only hit.

Woodstock North got a triple from Caden Quick and a double from Felipe DeAvila.

Yorkville 10, Alden-Hebron 0: At Yorkville, Justin Gritmacher had the Giants’ only hit.

BOYS TENNIS

Crystal Lake Central 6, Belvidere North 1: At Belvidere, the Tigers swept doubles and won first and third singles in improving to 7-4 overall with the nonconference win.

Logan Wasilk (No. 1) won, 6-1, 6-0, while Jackson Buckler (No. 3) won, 6-0, 6-0.

Cary-Grove 7, Lake Zurich 0: At Cary, the Trojans’ nonconference win included a pair of forfeits.

C-G improved to 11-0-1 overall.

Woodstock 5, Wauconda 2: At Wauconda, the Blue Streaks won their second straight, sweeping the four doubles matches in the nonconference dual meet.

Woodstock’s Brad Arnold prevailed in three sets at No. 2 singles. The Blue Streaks got doubles wins from Sam Berry/Matt Keyzer (No. 1), Jacob Murray/Luke Trewyn (No. 2), Liam Hanson/Vince Perez (No. 3) and Jackson Pajich/Cooper Pajich (No. 4).

Jacobs quad: At Algonquin, the Golden Eagles defeated Grayslake North, 3-1 and 3-0, and St. Charles North, 3-1 and 2-0.

GIRLS SOCCER

Johnsburg 3, Harvard 2: At Harvard, the Skyhawks overcame a 2-1 deficit at halftime of the KRC match, prevailing in penalty kicks.

Mackenzie McQuiston scored an unassisted goal in the first half for Johnsburg (1-3, 1-2), and Aliyah Andersen scored from a Wynne Oeffling assist five minutes into the second half.

In PKs, Harvard missed its third and fifth kicks. Johnsburg went 4 for 4 as McQuiston, Oeffling, Jade Schwichow and Andersen all converted.

Alexia Posada and Jasmin Morales scored in regulation for Harvard. In PKs, Alexia, Jasmin and Jenny Mendoza scored for the Hornets.

Woodstock 6, Marengo 0: At Woodstock, Madison Kentgen’s fifth and sixth goals of the season helped the Blue Streaks build a 3-0 lead by halftime of the KRC match.

Becca Janiga, who a first-half assist, added a pair of goals after halftime as well as another assist. Natalie Morrow and Celia Tafoya also scored for Woodstock (4-2-1, 3-1). Daisy Moctezuma, Tafoya and Emma Meiners had assists as well.

Richmond-Burton 9, Woodstock North 2: At Woodstock, Reese Frericks had three goals and two assists for the Rockets, who remained undefeated in the KRC.

Brianna Maldonado had three goals and one assist as R-B improved to 4-1-2 overall and 4-0 in conference. Margaret Slove added a pair of goals, Layne Frericks had one goal and two assists, and Jordan Otto contributed an assist. Goalkeeper Hannah Schlibinger made six saves.

BOYS LACROSSE

Marian Central 7, Lake Forest Academy 6: At Lake Forest, Jack Whalon scored three goals and won 15 of 16 faceoffs for the Hurricanes, who earned their first win of the season.

Brendan Stoll added a pair of goals for Marian Central (1-1). Matt Gruebnau and Alex Smith also scored, and Marcus Pomili made nine saves.
