High school sports roundup for Tuesday, April 6

Crystal Lake South’s girls volleyball team vaulted above the .500 mark at home Tuesday by picking up a 2-0 win over Burlington Central in Crystal Lake.

The 25-19, 25-20 victory improved the Gators to 3-2 both overall and in the Fox Valley Conference. Emma Stowasser set up 12 assists to go with two kills, three aces and three blocks, while Morgan Jones added five kills and Megan Langdon made five blocks in the win.

Woodstock North 2, Harvard 0: At Woodstock, the Thunder remained perfect in conference play after a 25-16, 25-11 win over the Hornets.

The Thunder improved to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in the Kishwaukee River Conference with the win. Alyssa Wickersham led the way with 11 kills and Kylie Schulze set up 21 assists in the victory.

Asha Billstrand had three kills for Harvard (0-6, 0-5 KRC) in the loss, Alex Cooke had four assists and Abby Perkins and Montana Brincks added four digs apiece.

Prairie Ridge 2, Hampshire 1: At Crystal Lake, the Whip-Purs started strong but fell off down the stretch, leading to a 17-25, 26-24, 25-22 come-from-behind win for the Wolves.

Ansley Morlock led the way for Prairie Ridge with 11 kills, while Sammy Johnson set up 20 assists and made nine digs in the FVC win.

Marengo 2, Johnsburg 0: At Johnsburg, Marengo locked down a comfortable win over their hosts in a 25-18, 25-14 affair.

Alexis Kunde had five kills and four digs in the victory for Marengo, while Lilly Johnson added 20 assists, eight digs and three aces.

Delaney Stern had eight assists, and Emmie Wizceb had four kills for the Skyhawks in the loss.

Huntley 2, Jacobs 1: At Huntley, Jacobs failed to capitalize on a first-set victory, falling, 24-26, 25-23, 25-12, to the Red Raiders.

Maggie Wallenberger had 15 kills in the loss for the Golden Eagles as they dropped to 2-3 overall.

Richmond-Burton 2, Woodstock 0: At Woodstock, the Rockets came away with a KRC win on the road in straight sets, winning 25-20, 25-21.

Maggie Uhwat had seven kills and four digs in the victory, while Jordyn Duncan added six kills, five digs and five aces and Jesse Klicker set up 17 assists and made six digs.

BOYS SOCCER

Hampshire 3, Cary-Grove 2: At Cary, the Whip-Purs picked up a narrow win on the road over the Trojans.

Kobe Frenette scored twice for the Whips in the win, including the game-winner with 32 seconds left in regulation.

The victory improved Hampshire to 6-2 overall and 6-1 in Fox Valley Conference play – a program record for most conference wins in one season.

Prairie Ridge 0, Huntley 0 (2OT): At Huntley, a pair of extra periods weren’t enough to decide things in a scoreless battle between FVC rivals.

McHenry 1, Burlington Central 0: At McHenry, a first-half goal was enough for the Warriors as they held on for a shutout win over the visiting Rockets.

Crystal Lake South 4, Crystal Lake Central 2: At Crystal Lake, a pair of first-half goals from Sam Bahnfleth set the tone for the Gators in a FVC win at home over the Tigers.

Nolan Getinger and Josh Washington also scored for the Gators as they improved to 5-2-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the FVC.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

McHenry County College 3-6, College of Lake County 4-3: At Crystal Lake, the Scots split a doubleheader with the visiting Lancers.

Taylor Fickas earned the win in MCC’s 6-3 win in game 2, and Mackenzie Scully had a home run.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

McHenry County College 7-12, Elgin Community College 8-2: At Elgin, the Scots split a doubleheader with ECC on the road.

After dropping the opening game by a narrow 8-7 margin, MCC bounced back with authority to secure a 12-2 win in Game 2.

AJ Henkle led the way with three hits and four RBIs in the one-sided win, while Jack Hines added two hits and drove in three.
