High school sports roundup for Monday, March 1

Karsen Karlblom reached a milestone Monday, and she and her Prairie Ridge basketball teammates celebrated a Fox Valley Conference win on Senior Night, as well.

Karlblom poured in a game-high 20 points, including six 3-pointers, to reach 1,000 for her career as the host Wolves posted a 48-30 victory over Hampshire. Karlblom, a 5-foot-11 junior guard, entered the game 12 points shy of the milestone. She was presented a professionally made banner after the game.

Prairie Ridge also received eight points from Sam Gablenz and seven from Emma Kay.

Hampshire got eight points apiece from Ceili Ramirez and Kaitlyn Milison.

Burlington Central 64, Crystal Lake South 40: At Burlington Central, Rebecca Carani scored 16 points, including three 3-pointers, as the Rockets picked up the Fox Valley Conference win.

Elana Wells added 14 points (two 3-pointers) Avery Anderson had 10 for BC. Lauren Knief chipped in nine.

St. Viator 42, Huntley 39: At Huntley, the Red Raiders dropped the nonconference game, despite Jessie Ozzauto’s 17 points (two 3-pointers) and Kamsi Nwogu’s 13.

Marist 63, Marian Central 13: At Marist, Iowa-bound Sydney Affolter scored 14 points in less than two quarters, reaching 1,500 points for her career, as the RedHawks cruised in East Suburban Catholic action.

Morgan Laudick had six points for Marian Central.

Marist is ranked third in the AP Class 4A poll.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Huntley 73, Crystal Lake Central 39: At Crystal Lake, the Red Raiders (6-3, 4-2) caught fire from the 3-point line, hitting 14 of 28 behind the are in their FVC win over the Tigers (1-5, 1-5).

Daniel Cruz started the game with a three-point play, then added four 3s for a game-high 19 points. Aiden Wieczorek had 15 points with three 3s and Ben Ahmer scored nine on three 3s.

Nicholas Gawart and Connor Bartesch scored eight apiece to lead Central.

Prairie Ridge 53, Hampshire 33: At Hampshire, the Wolves (4-3, 4-3) ended a three-game skid with their FVC win over the Whip-Purs (0-9, 0-7).

James Muse topped Prairie Ridge with 15 and three 3s. Carter Evans added 11. Adam Ugochukwu led Hampshire with 11.

Cary-Grove 53, McHenry 44: At Cary-Grove, Drew Sepeczi scored 22 points to lead the host Trojans (6-1, 5-1 FVC).

McHenry (3-6, 2-5) was led by Anthony Fowler’s 17 points and Matt Gallimore’s 14.

Schaumburg Christian 73, Alden-Hebron 55: At Schaumburg, Justin Gritmacker scored 15 points to lead the Giants (2-8, 2-8) in a loss to the Conquerors in their Northeastern Athletic Conference game.

Jake Nielsen added 11 for A-H. The Giants kept it close into the second half, but Aaron Onesimus scored all 22 of his points in the second half to help the Conquerors pull away.

Burlington Central 67, Crystal Lake South 42: At Crystal Lake South, Carson Seyller scored 15 points, Zac Schmidt added 14, and the visiting Rockets improved to 10-1 and 7-0 in the FVC.

Gavin Sarvis had 12 for Burlington Central.

South (2-4, 2-3) received 12 points from Isaiah Kirkeeng and 11 from Arnav Jain.

BOYS SWIMMING

Woodstock North co-op 102, McHenry 68: At McHenry, Gunner Dunnett won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 breaststroke to lead the Thunder to a dual FVC victory over the Warriors.

Marcos Fernandez (50 freestyle), Bojidar Kostov (100 butterfly), Quentin Crown (100 freestyle) and Quinn Cynor (500 freestyle) had individual wins for North.

McHenry freshman Ryan Story won the 100 backstroke.

GIRLS BOWLING

Woodstock 2,868, Dundee-Crown 1,992: At Kingston Lanes, Woodstock North sophomore Norah Mungle led the way for the winners, rolling a match-high series of 612 and match-high game of 225 in Game 2. Both were season bests.

Woodstock North senior Alli Fansler followed in scoring average for Woodstock with a 528 series, including a 193 in Game 2. Woodstock North seniors Ceri Deacon, Gosia Mucha and Hannah Fink finished within 13 pins of one another, adding 1,357 pins to the team score.
