High school sports roundup for Friday, Feb. 26

Marengo junior Matthew Volkening scored 19 of his game-high 26 points in the first half as the Indians topped Woodstock, 76-28, in Kishwaukee River Conference action Friday night in Marengo.

Jonah Pace added 12 points for unbeaten Marengo (6-0, 6-0), and Josh Bibbings had seven points.

Caden Ogle topped the Blue Streaks (0-7, 0-6) with eight points, and Liam Mickle scored seven.

Huntley 49, Hampshire 31: At Huntley, the Red Raiders (4-3, 4-2) used a balanced scoring attack to earn the FVC win over the Whip-Purs (0-7, 0-6).

Ben Ahmer led Huntley with 13 points. Aiden Wieczorek added 12 points, while Adam Guazzo and Daniel Cruz each scored nine.

Burlington Central 55, Dundee-Crown 31: At Carpentersville, the Rockets (8-1, 6-0) outscored the Chargers (3-3, 3-3) 16-2 in the first quarter and led by 20 at halftime en route to a KRC win.

Gavin Sarvis scored 14 points for Burlington, Nick Carpenter had 12 points, and Carson Seyller scored 11.

Devin Matthews led D-C with five points.

Richmond-Burton 65, Harvard 32: At Richmond, T.J. Turner drained five 3-pointers in the first quarter and finished with a game-high 18 points during the Rockets’ KRC win.

Jake Barthel and Blake Volkmar added seven points each for R-B (6-1, 5-1). Nolan Frenk scored nine points for the Hornets (0-7, 0-6).

Joliet Catholic 68, Marian Central 62 (OT): At Joliet, the Hurricanes erased a four-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime before falling in East Suburban Catholic Conference play.

Christian Bentancur led Marian (2-8, 0-5) with 22 points, and Jake Giangreco followed closely with 21 points.

McHenry 49, Crystal Lake Central 41: At McHenry, Anthony Fowler tossed in 19 points to lead the Warriors (2-4, 2-3) past the Tigers (1-4, 1-4) in their FVC game.

Matt Gallimore hit three 3s and finished with 15 points for McHenry.

Nicholas Gawart and Aidan Ritter each scored 13 to lead Central.

Jacobs 59, Prairie Ridge 42: At Crystal Lake, the Golden Eagles (4-3, 3-3) got 15 points from Nick McCoy in their FVC win over the Wolves (3-3, 3-3).

Robert Pennel scored 14 points and hit four 3s. James Hayes also had 14 for the Eagles.

James Muse and Carter Evans each scored nine to lead the Wolves. Jackson Otto added eight.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Cary-Grove 58, Crystal Lake South 37: At Cary, Emily Lukowski scored 12 of her game-high 24 points in the first quarter to get the Trojans off to a hot start during their FVC win over the Gators.

Lauren Passaglia added 13 points for the Trojans (5-1, 5-1), and Lilliana Kurth scored seven.

Ava Sevcik led South (2-3, 2-3) with 11 points, and Kree Nunnally had eight points.

Richmond-Burton 47, Harvard 18: At Harvard, the Rockets (3-5, 3-3) earned the KRC win with Madi Havlicek and Hannah Schleibinger each providing 10 points. Rachel Baker followed closely with nine points.

Hayley Shafer paced Harvard (0-6, 0-6) with 11 points. Emma Ackland had four points and four blocks.

Marian Central 48, Grant 38: At Woodstock, the Hurricanes secured a nonconference win on senior night. Morgan Laudick and Abby Todd each gave Marian (3-3) with 11 points, and Isabella Saxelby added 10 points.

Marengo 39, Woodstock 10: At Woodstock, the Indians (6-1, 6-0) picked up a KRC victory behind 24 points for Jennifer Heinberg. Alexis Kunde added six points.

Emily Albrecht had seven points for Woodstock (1-6, 1-5).

Prairie Ridge 38, Jacobs 27: At Algonquin, Karsen Karlblom poured in 16 points as the Wolves (4-3, 3-3) got back to .500 in FVC competition. Calista Pollack chipped in with seven points.

Mackenzie Leahy led the Golden Eagles (1-5, 1-5) with 19 points.

Woodstock North 58, Johnsburg 26: At Woodstock, the Thunder dropped 21 points in the first quarter to seize control of their KRC matchup with the Skyhawks (3-4, 3-3).

Lacey Schaffter led North (5-1, 5-1) with 12 points, Katelynn Ward had 11 points, and Madison Czischki scored nine.
