Boys bowling
IHSA State Finals: At St. Clair Bowl in O’Fallon, Jacobs sophomore Brett Biondo finished eighth, improving by seven spots on his Day 1 finish, with a grand total of 2,658. Biondo averaged 221.5 over 12 games between Friday and Saturday.
He ended his state tournament with three-game series of 646 and 698 to vault himself into the top 10. He bowled a 253 high game on Saturday.
Carterville’s David Lutchka won the individual championship with a grand total of 2,777, which was 55 pins ahead of the runner-up.
Huntley sophomore Noah Waters placed 11th individually with a 2,608, including a high game of 239 on Saturday. Woodstock co-op junior Max Haggerty took 15th with a 2,583 and recorded 262 high game on Saturday.
Huntley finished eighth as a team with a grand total of 11,950 (199.2 average). Harrisburg won the team title with 13,177 (219.6 average).
Austin Tenglin (53rd; 2,410), Matthew Fishman (59th; 2,377), Landen Conforti (2,276), Nicholas Gaspari (1,159) and Joey Humphrey (1,120) also scored for the Red Raiders.
Girls wrestling
Rock Falls Regional: At Rock Falls, Burlington Central took third as a team with 106.5 points and advanced five wrestlers to the Geneseo Sectional on Feb. 14. Kaneland won the team championship with 146.5 points, and DeKalb (141) was runner-up.
Central’s Victoria Macias (115 pounds), Soraya Walikonis (130) and Ryann Miller (170) finished first in their weight classes. Ruby Vences (110) placed runner-up, and Melanie Granda (105) took fourth to qualify.
Competitive cheerleading
Buffalo Grove Sectional: At Buffalo Grove, Community High School District 155 schools took the top three spots in the Medium Team division, with Crystal Lake Central finishing first with 94.27 points.
Prairie Ridge (92.70) was runner-up. Cary-Grove (92.23) was third. All three qualify for next weekend’s IHSA State Finals at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington.
Crystal Lake South placed seventh with 84.87 points, two spots from the fifth and final qualifying spot.
Grayslake North Sectional: At Grayslake, Hampshire claimed the Large Team division title with 92.57 points, more than two points ahead of runner-up Grant (90.07), to qualify for state. Huntley (89.87) finished fourth and also qualified.
McHenry (85.87) took ninth and Jacobs (82.20) was 11th, but did not advance.
Dundee-Crown won the Co-ed Team division title with 94.43 points. Conant (92.80) was runner-up.
Johnsburg (90.43) earned the Small Team division championship to qualify for next weekend’s IHSA State Finals. Richmond-Burton (89.47) finished third and Marengo (87.87) took fourth. Marengo will make its first state appearance.
No local teams advanced in the Small Team division. Woodstock (75.97) took 12th, Woodstock North (74.90) was 14th, and Harvard (73.03) was 15th.
Farmington Sectional: At Farmington, Burlington Central (90.23) took the fifth and final spot in the Medium Team division to qualify for next weekend’s IHSA State Finals. Morris won the team title with 91.80 points.
Girls bowling
Leyden Invite: At The Cherry Bowl in Rockford, Pria Waters was seventh with a 1,195 six-game series, and the Red Raidets took third out of 14 teams with a grand total of 5,658. Huntley was 79 pins behind champion Hononegah (5,737). Marengo (4,522) took 10th.
Erica DeBello (1,115) was 13th for Huntley, Ashlyn Tenglin (1,115) was 15th, Jana Boudreau (1,097) was 20th and Katie Scaletta (1,096) was 22nd
Payton Coffman (993) was 37th and Kayla Miller (991) was 38th for Marengo.
Boys basketball
Crystal Lake South 63, Hinsdale South 49: At Crystal Lake, AJ Demirov led the way with 16 points in the Gators’ nonconference win. Ryan Morgan had 14 points, Nick Stowasser had 11 points, eight rebounds and four steals, and Tony Santarelli had 10 points and six rebounds for South (21-4).
New Trier 70, McHenry 43: At the War on the Shore at Loyola Academy in Wilmette, the Warriors (20-3) suffered their third loss. Conner McLean had 19 points to lead McHenry.
Vernon Hills 50, Hampshire 48: At Vernon Hills, the Whip-Purs (9-16) fell short in a nonconference loss to the Cougars. Ryan Prowicz (two 3s) scored 17 points, and Jaden Nelsen chipped in 15 for Hampshire.
Barrington 61, Huntley 29: At Barrington, the Red Raiders (10-14) lost to the Broncis. Logan Darragh had 11 points and Noah Cook tossed in eight.
Grayslake Central 59, Crystal Lake Central 36: At Grayslake, the Tigers (6-19) fell to the Rams in nonconference action.
St. Charles East 50, Jacobs 34: At St. Charles, the Golden Eagles (13-11) lost to the Saints in their nonconference game.
IC Catholic 68, Johnsburg 43: At Johnsburg, the Skyhawks (11-13) lost to the Knights in a nonconference game. Josh Kaunas had 13 points and two 3s and Ashton Stern had nine points on three 3s.
Girls basketball
Harvard 40, Woodstock North 33: At Woodstock, the Hornets (13-12, 4-8) beat the Thunder (6-16, 3-7) in their Kishwaukee River Conference game for the second time in a week. Harvard won 60-47 on Monday.
Ava Peceniak had 10 points to lead Harvard.
Plano 56, Woodstock 44: At Plano, the Blue Streaks fell to 12-13 overall and 5-6 in the KRC with a loss to the Reapers.
Guilford 41, Marian Central 33: At Rockford, the Hurricanes (12-13) came up short in a nonconference loss to the Vikings.
