Why she was selected: Toussaint, a freshman, matched her career high with 24 points in a victory over Richmond-Burton on Dec. 3 and scored 16 in a win against Sandwich on Friday.
The talented guard continued her strong start to the season Wednesday by setting a new career high of 33 points in a win over Woodstock North. The Skyhawks are off to a 5-3 start, including a 3-0 record in Kishwaukee River Conference play.
For her performance, Toussaint was chosen as the Northwest Herald Athlete of the Week in an online vote. Toussaint answered a few questions from Northwest Herald sports editor Alex Kantecki.
What’s allowed your team to get off to a strong start?
Toussaint: My sister Skye and I have put in a lot of work in the offseason and our team has really been working well together. We are hoping to have a great season.
What goals do you have for your freshman season?
Toussaint: My goals for this season are to win conference and bring home a regional championship.
What superhero power would you like to have?
Toussaint: I would like to have the superhero power of super speed so no one would be able to guard me and I would be able to win all my track races.
Who is your favorite professional team and athlete?
Toussaint: My favorite professional team is the Milwaukee Bucks and my favorite player would have to be Caitlin Clark.
What is something you can’t live without?
Toussaint: I couldn’t live without my family and friends, especially my twin sister Skye because she helps me with my homework.
What is one food you can’t stand to eat?
Toussaint: Brussels sprouts because they are nasty!
What is the best Christmas present you’ve ever received?
Toussaint: The best Christmas present I have ever received would have to be my Chick-fil-A crocs because I love Chick-fil-A.
Do you have any nicknames?
Toussaint: Some of my close family and friends call me “Sum” or “Sum Sum.”
If you could spend a day with anyone from history, who would it be?
Toussaint: Chad Michael Murray in his prime “One Tree Hill” days.
