Illinois Valley YMCA keeping its members safe

As the state moves into Tier 3 on the Resurgence Mitigation Plan, the Illinois Valley YMCA will remain open with added safety protocols in place to ensure the health and safety of its members and staff.

Members are to maintain a 6-foot distance from each other at all times, and with over 100,000 square feet of space in the facility, there is plenty of space to practice social distancing.

A face covering is required when arriving and leaving the YMCA facilities. Face masks must also be worn when working out to adhere to the new safety guidelines.

“The health and safety of our members is our top priority,” said Dave Potthoff, Illinois Valley YMCA CEO.

Group exercise classes are cancelled until further notice. Although there will be no water or group fitness classes at this time, water walking will continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30-11 a.m.

Effective Nov. 23, the pool will remain open with a modified schedule. The lap pool will be open Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to Noon, and 4:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday the pool will be open from 10 a.m. to Noon. The therapy pool will be open weekdays from 7-9 a.m., 11 a.m. to Noon, 4:30-6:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to Noon.

The YMCA is also offering individual programs such as 1 on 1 swim lessons, 1 on 1 tumbling lessons and 1 on 1 personal training sessions. Contact the YMCA for more information.

Temperature checks are taken upon entering the facility, and capacity signs around the building indicate how many individuals are allowed in each area of the Y. Wipes are available at disinfection stations throughout the building, and the staff remains very active on cleaning and disinfecting areas.

All machines must be disinfected and wiped down before and after each use, and members are asked to bring their own towels. The Y will not have a towel service at this time, and steam rooms are not open.
